Dear First name / friend,
Welcome to Day 9 of the January No-Shopping Reset — one of my personal favorite prompts.
Yesterday, we leaned into an outfit that already works.
Today, we look at the opposite.
Because most closets have a handful (or a pile) of pieces that get passed over again and again — and those pieces quietly drive a lot of unnecessary shopping.
We buy something new… instead of dealing with the thing we already own that isn’t quite right.
Today’s action:
👉🏼 Pick one item in your closet you rarely wear and try it on.
Then answer one simple question:
Why don’t I reach for this?
Be honest and specific. Common reasons:
• The fit is off
• It looks dated
• It doesn’t work with the rest of your closet (a closet orphan)
• It doesn’t match your real lifestyle
• It worked in theory, but not in real life.
This is not about guilt or beating yourself up.
And it’s not about forcing yourself to wear it.
It’s about information.
When you understand why something doesn’t work, you stop buying more versions of the same mistake.
That’s how you start shopping with intention instead of hope.
It’s how we become smart shoppers — not influenced shoppers.
Talk tomorrow,
Beth
