Dear First name / friend,

Welcome to Day 10 of the January No-Shopping Reset.

Let’s talk about how a lot of impulse buying actually happens now — because it’s usually not random.

We’re scrolling.
We see a favorite influencer.
Someone we like. Trust. Relate to.
It feels friendly, familiar, and helpful.

That’s not accidental — and it’s also why it’s so effective.

This isn’t about bashing influencers…I love them too. Many of them genuinely feel like virtual friends. Of course, it’s natural to listen to their advice. And their advice really can be valuable and helpful.

The problem is what happens next.

A swipe.
A link.
An “add to cart.”
And suddenly we’re buying something we hadn’t planned on five minutes earlier.

Today is about interrupting that moment.

Today’s action:
👉🏼 When you feel the urge to buy something — especially after seeing it on social media — wait 10 minutes before doing anything.

That means:

Don’t ask for the link
Don’t click the link
Don’t add it to your cart
Don’t “save it for later”

Just pause.

After 10 minutes, check back in with yourself.
Do you still want it — or was it the moment, the person, or the suggestion doing the work?

Before you do anything else, ask:
“Do I already own something that fills the same role?”

Not the exact piece — but the same purpose.
Very often, the urge fades once you realize you already have a solution.

I use this rule myself. It stops a lot of unnecessary purchases before they happen.

Slow decisions lead to better ones.
Fast, influencer-fueled decisions usually don’t.

Talk tomorrow,
Beth
