The Next Chapter of Hoodoo Adventures Looking Back with Gratitude, Moving Forward with Purpose |
🌞 Our Ellis Street Location |
After 10 incredible years, we are closing the doors to our Ellis Street location on February 1st, marking the end of an era for Hoodoo Adventures. This space has been so much more than a building. It has been a place of growth, challenge, connection, and community, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has climbed, trained, gathered, and shared moments with us there. New beginnings are always a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Change can feel scary, but it also opens the door to possibility, and that balance is something we know well. Over the past 20 years, Hoodoo Adventures has continued to adapt, evolve, and pivot through challenges both expected and unforeseen. Through it all, our passion for what we do has never wavered. As we step into 2026, we remain committed to moving forward thoughtfully and intentionally, with the health and well-being of our family, our staff, and our community at the forefront of every decision we make. This transition is not an ending, it is part of our ongoing story, and we are proud of where we’ve been and deeply motivated by where we’re headed next. |

🧗To Our Climbing Community💪 |
As we head into our final month at Ellis Street, we invite you to climb with us as often as you can throughout January. This last stretch is about celebrating the community that made the gym what it was, and we would love nothing more than to see the walls full, chalk in the air, and familiar faces (and new ones) sharing those final climbing days together. To make that easier, we’ll be offering special January rates on drop-ins and 5-punch passes, giving everyone the chance to get in as much climbing as possible before we close. If you haven’t already, bring a friend, or better yet, bring some kids. Indoor climbing has such a powerful way of capturing people’s attention, and we have no doubt that there will be future indoor climbing opportunities in Penticton. Why not give the next generation (and a few first-timers) a taste of how awesome it is, so they can become advocates for what comes next? As for us, we’re actively exploring all options for our climbing assets and how we can best support the next opportunity for indoor climbing in Penticton. We know the immeasurable benefits this sport brings, and we’ve seen firsthand how deeply this gym has been loved. With our experience and passion for climbing, we are committed to doing what we can to help ensure the momentum continues, long after these walls come down. |

While some things are changing, our commitment to getting people outside remains exactly the same. We will continue to offer the same core tours and adventure programs that our community and visitors know and love, delivering meaningful outdoor experiences rooted in safety, skill-building, and connection to place. As we move forward, we’re streamlining our tour offerings to focus on what we do best and to showcase the very best the Okanagan has to offer. This approach allows us to support sustainable tourism while also creating more accessible and impactful experiences for our local community. Through skills courses, rentals, and memberships, we remain dedicated to encouraging and enabling locals to get outside, build confidence, and deepen their relationship with the outdoors. Behind the scenes, we’re actively exploring multiple locations from which to continue our operations. As plans take shape, we’ll be sharing updates on both our venue and our evolving offerings. There’s a lot to look forward to, and we’re excited to bring everyone along as this next phase unfolds. |

🌲 Our Passion for Youth Programs |
Over the past 20 years, we are incredibly proud to have provided more than 400,000 combined hours of outdoor recreation to youth in our community. Those hours represent far more than time spent outside, they reflect moments of growth, confidence-building, leadership development, and meaningful connection to nature and to one another. We have seen firsthand the powerful role outdoor play can have in young people’s lives. Time spent outside fosters resilience, curiosity, teamwork, and self-belief. Leadership opportunities, shared challenges, and unstructured play in natural spaces give kids the chance to discover who they are and how they fit into the world around them, and those lessons last well beyond childhood. In a time when children are spending more hours than ever on screens, the importance of getting kids outdoors has never been greater. Studies show that the average child now spends over 7 hours a day on devices, while regular time in nature has been linked to improved mental health, better focus, increased physical activity, and stronger social connections. As Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, famously said: “Time in nature is not leisure time; it’s an essential investment in our children’s health.” As we move into this next chapter, our commitment to youth remains unwavering. We are deeply motivated to continue supporting accessible, meaningful outdoor recreation opportunities for young people in our community, now and for many years to come. |

🚴 Our Commitment to the Trail |
Our commitment to getting people outside doesn’t stop at programming, it extends to the places that make those experiences possible. We continue to recognize and champion the recreational, historical, and tourism value of the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail, and we remain passionate advocates for its revitalization as a regional asset. The KVR Trail is more than a route through the landscape. It is a connection point between communities, a gateway for outdoor recreation, and a powerful driver of tourism and local economic activity. We will continue to promote its use, provide shuttle and bike rental services, and support experiences that encourage both visitors and locals to explore the region by trail. Rail trails around the world demonstrate just how impactful this type of infrastructure can be. For example, the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail in the United States generates over $100 million annually in direct economic impact for the communities along its route, supporting local businesses, accommodations, and long-term tourism growth. Trails like this have become destination experiences in their own right. With this in mind, Hoodoo Adventures will continue to advocate for positive, sustainable recreational development that allows Penticton and the surrounding region to realize similar benefits. We believe in the long-term value of the KVR Trail, and we are committed to supporting its future as a cornerstone of outdoor recreation, tourism, and economic vitality in our community. |

🏃 Our Events & Industry Advocacy |
Where do you go after hosting a World Championship event? Most would say it’s hard to go up from there — but not us. After an unforgettable season representing Canada on the world stage and hosting the Adventure Racing World Championships, Hoodoo Adventures and Expedition Canada are taking everything we learned through delivering a complex, high-impact international event and using it to strengthen, support, and advocate for the event industry in British Columbia and beyond. At a community level, we are proud to be bringing back the Penticton Beer Run, one of the city’s signature events. This fall marks the 10th annual event, with the potential to welcome up to 1,000 participants, generating economic activity while celebrating movement, connection, and community pride. At a national level, we remain committed to growing the sport of adventure racing in Canada. Through the media exposure, partnerships, and sponsor relationships built during World Champs, we will continue to support athlete development, storytelling, and long-term visibility for the sport through Expedition Canada. At a provincial level, our focus has expanded into advocacy. We are actively calling for greater support for community-based events across BC, events that create measurable economic returns, encourage healthy lifestyles, and build resilient tourism economies. While unprecedented public spending has flowed toward large-scale international events hosted by elite, profit-generating organizations, many community events have seen funding reduced or eliminated altogether. This imbalance has already resulted in the loss of valuable grassroots events across the province. “As a professional in the tourism and event industry, I have seen firsthand the importance of events for communities,” says Lyndie Seddon, Owner of Hoodoo Adventures and Expedition Canada. “Through the pandemic, we experienced what it was like to lose events, not just as economic drivers, but as vital contributors to community health and connection. As a taxpayer and business owner, I believe it is our responsibility to keep government accountable for decisions that impact communities, especially when smaller regions and local organizers need support the most.” We remain deeply committed to growing events, supporting organizers, and standing up as leaders for the long-term health of both our industry and our communities. Hoodoo Adventures is still here, and we will continue to show up, collaborate, and advocate for a future where events are recognized for the powerful role they play in community well-being, economic sustainability, and regional identity. |

🤝 Our Team Building Opportunities |
Studies show that organizations with strong team engagement see up to 21% higher profitability, and shared experiences outside the office play a key role in building trust, communication, and morale. Time spent together in meaningful, hands-on experiences can translate directly to a stronger bottom line and a more connected workplace. We customize engaging team-building events that range from shared outdoor adventures to programs that give back to local communities, and communities around the world. In a noisy and demanding world, giving your team something positive and fun to focus on can strengthen bonds, boost morale, and remind people why working together matters. |

👐 Our Team - The Hoodoo Crew |
Over the past 20 years, Hoodoo Adventures has been proud to employ so many passionate, outdoor-minded people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. From peak seasons with teams of more than 40 staff to leaner times that required us to scale back and navigate real challenges, our people have always been the heart of what we do. As we move forward, we will continue with our outstanding core team, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning, while also welcoming and mentoring new rising stars in the industry. We are incredibly proud of everyone who has been part of this journey and deeply grateful for their continued support, dedication, and belief in Hoodoo Adventures. |
As we pack up 10 years in a building that has hosted countless birthday parties, school groups, events, and, most importantly, amazing people and unforgettable moments, we can’t help but feel overwhelming gratitude for our community. Along the way, there were certainly those who doubted whether a business like Hoodoo Adventures would last, but here we are, 20 years later, still standing after facing challenge after challenge. It is our deep love for this community, and the support you continue to show us in return, that keeps us moving forward when things get tough. For that, we thank you, and we keep pushing on, because no good adventurer ever quits just because the trail gets hard. |

“What’s next? I’ve asked myself this countless times throughout my career. I’ve questioned whether I’m doing the right thing, moving in the right direction, and whether I’ll ever be able to make the impact I feel in my heart is possible. We live in a crazy world, one where it’s far easier to slip into a negative mindset and focus on everything that’s wrong than it is to fight to keep your light on in the dark. After nearly losing everything for reasons beyond my control, more than once since starting this business, after decades of loved ones encouraging me to get a ‘normal job,’ and after regularly questioning it all, I’ve learned countless lessons along the way. My top three? #1. I am very stubborn. #2. One individual can make a difference. #3. Life is meaningless—until we choose to give it meaning. Hoodoo Adventures has brought meaning into my life, and I hope it has done the same for many others. I hope to inspire people to follow their passion, not let anyone stand in their way, and to lead from a place of love. We are all one.” — Lyndie Seddon Owner, Hoodoo Adventures & Expedition Canada |
