THE QUARTERLY VOLUNTEER BULLETIN

Volunteers, Warmer Days are Coming!

Hello CMA Volunteers! I hope 2026 has been off to a good start for all of you! Our year started strong as Nicole Velez officially stepped in as Global President and Corey Nascenzi began as Global Vice President after major accomplishments as Director of Mentorship. I know this dream team will do great things for CMA!

I believe that 2026 is the year of new opportunities, creativity, and saying YES! It’s time to get started on the projects we’ve always wanted to and say no to any self-doubt that creeps in. Find pockets of time throughout your day and use those 5 or 10 minutes for YOU. Pouring into yourself is the bravest thing you can do, and I encourage us all to try it this year.

Thank you all for your time and dedication to CMA. I know everyone has incredibly busy schedules, so your commitment to volunteering does not go unnoticed. Cheers to you and Happy Chinese New Year!

All my best,
Kayla Paul-Koch

What brought you to the kids' media space?
I was born in the same year as Sesame Street and just a few years apart from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Electric Company. Growing up alongside these legends didn’t just entertain preschooler Tone; they shaped me into a kind, caring, and curious adult—with jokes that might even make Oscar the Grouch crack a smile. The instant I recognized how powerful learning can be when infused with heart, humor, and empathetic modeling was the moment I realized those shows had formed me into me—and why I have felt so inspired to pay it forward. I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to be part of a community of like-minded creators who are inspired to pass that spark along and help nurture kids to grow up and make the world a better place.
What is the most rewarding thing about working in kids' media?
There truly is no privilege more profound than the ability to help mold kids, the citizens of tomorrow, into thoughtful, curious, compassionate people who know how to play nicely with one another. As content creators, we have the awesome responsibility to nurture, guide, and model the values that matter most in life. Who wouldn’t want to live in a world bustling with the joyful souls that we’re helping to inspire? I know that I certainly do!

What have you learned during your time in the industry?

What's one event that made you feel the impact of your work in the kids' business?
Production is such a long and winding road. Over the course of a project, we can spend years in our own little bubbles, becoming intimately familiar with every tiny detail of a property: the way our characters look and sound, what they wear, what makes them giggle, and what makes them grumble. We playfully repeat their catchphrases to each other at work, and we sing their songs to ourselves while doing the laundry.
Every single aspect of a property becomes part of our DNA, but only ours, until we send our stories out into the ether, hoping they’ll land in their intended eyes and ears. That’s why it’s such an awe- inspiring, magical experience when we hear people in real life repeating a line we once made up in the shower, singing a song we wrote and rewrote 300 times, dressing up as our characters for Halloween, or sporting a backpack with a face we once doodled on a napkin. Our work isn’t like live theater, where we can hear laughter and applause in real time, so it’s in these moments that we realize the work is out there, alive, resonating, and connecting. That feeling is nothing short of powerful and profoundly rewarding

VOLUNTEER SHOUT OUT
Jerome Rossen, Director of Events
We're sharing our thanks and praise for our amazing CMA volunteers each quarter! If you ever have a recommendation, please share with the Operations team!
A big shout-out to our Director of Events, Jerome Rossen, for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our community. Jerome is always open to supporting new ideas and trying new things, bringing both thoughtfulness and enthusiasm to every initiative. This year, we set the lofty goal of hosting at least one event each month, and thanks to Jerome’s leadership and commitment, our chapter reached a historic milestone with 12 in-person events. I’ve deeply appreciated Jerome’s kind and understanding approach, his willingness to step in wherever needed, and his true team-player mindset. He brings great ideas to the table, serves as a wonderful connector for our members, and is such a pleasure to work with and to call a friend!
