Dear First name / friend,
Welcome to Day 13 of the January No-Shopping Reset.
Yesterday, you identified your overbuy category.
Today, we look at how a lot of those purchases happen.
Many unnecessary buys fall into the same trap:
They’re almost right.
Almost flattering.
Almost what you were looking for.
Almost works with what you already own.
And “almost” is expensive.
Today’s action:
👉🏼 Think about the last item you bought in your overbuy category that didn’t quite work.
Ask yourself:
What did I compromise on?
Fit?
Color?
Fabric?
How it works with the rest of my closet?
Now the important part:
Make a deal with yourself going forward….Repeat after me:
Almost right is a no.
👉🏼👉🏼 One important caveat: if you have a hard-to-fit body and a piece could be right with tailoring, that’s fine — as long as you’re willing to get the alteration done right away, not “someday.”
An item that only works after alterations you never make still counts as almost-right.
Because buying almost-right items leads to:
More clutter
More frustration
And more shopping to “fix” the problem
I’ve done this myself more times than I can count. And every time, it costs more than waiting for the right piece.
Better buying decisions don’t come from buying impulsively or quickly — they come from being selective.
Talk tomorrow,
Beth
