JANUARY
Revelations that come from beginning again…
Hello loves,
I can't believe it's the first time I'm checking in with you this year and we're already half-way through January! It's only been a week since I got back from my winter break in Thailand and it's been a full week of diving back into work - regular classes, somatic therapy clients, winter wellbeing sessions for the students at NUA, and a beginner's workshop yesterday at Yantra. And while I had the most incredible month-long break, I am reminded of how grateful I am for the work that I do and I am filled with the immense amount of love, care & devotion I have for it. I also reflected, as I was immersed in my own practice this morning, how special it is (to me, at least) that the work I share is woven into every fabric of my life; meaning that I get to live what I teach and teach what I live. I believe this to be the embodiment of what it is to be human; to embrace & embody our human form, and to remember the wonderment of what we are beyond that (or 'beneath' it…)

‘Iccha Shakti’ ~ Go Beneath
As one of the three shaktis (energies) that move us into being and action, iccha shakti is the initial impulse, the underlying urge or desire that arises from stillness; movement that arises from a deep listening and a spacious allowing - for it to become, to appear, to express. It is the desire to self-express, the will to appear & to become, the wisdom that speaks from within, with no specific end goal or direction.
This is a theme we are working with this month in classes.

'Beginner's Mind'
I had a really lovely time sharing yoga with beginners yesterday. I was so excited to share with people who are at the beginning of their journey, some of the reminders that perhaps we all need:
- we are here to discover what is already alive within us
- there is nowhere we need to strive to get that's beyond us
- there is nothing we don't already ‘know’ when we are right here with what is now

I feel very grateful that I got to share my (slightly less mainstream) approach, that a yoga practice (when we speak of the physical), can be an opportunity to enhance body literacy, regain agency, and become a means for expression. That asana (the poses) are for me a dynamic expression of life itself, our aliveness, our energy. And that the breath, is not something we do, but something we are - a rhythm rather than a technique, life moving through us.
I hope something resonated today.
With much love,
Marie x
