Coventry City Council are launching their annual budget consultation with a significantly different focus this year – with no cuts to services proposed and the potential for additional investment for the second year in a row.

The Pre-Budget Report outlines potential themes for investment based on public engagement and council performance data, but they want to hear directly from local people and businesses about what's most important to them.

The council really value your opinion, so get involved by Wednesday 28th January and have your say by clicking the button below.

On the ground with BID Security

While many people go about their day unaware of what is unfolding around them, our security team once again headed towards danger, not away from it.

Reports came in of a violent male who had assaulted a member of the public. CCTV tracked him moving into the cathedral grounds, and moments later intelligence suggested he may be carrying a bladed item.

Despite the risks, a Street Patrol officers made their way immediately to the area. This is the reality of modern town-centre security: we are often the first uniform on scene, making dynamic decisions in fast-moving and unpredictable situations — long before police resources can arrive.

Thankfully, close communication between CCTV, control room, Street Patrol, and police led to a swift resolution. Officers located the male inside the cathedral, where police deployed Taser to prevent further harm and safely arrest him.

Incidents like this highlight an uncomfortable truth: BID security teams are increasingly filling the gap between public expectation and stretched emergency services. We are eyes on the street, early intervention, reassurance for the public, and often the calm presence in moments of chaos.

This is not about replacing the police — far from it. It’s about partnership, professionalism, and recognising the vital role that BID security now plays in keeping our town and city centres safe.

Thank you once again to our security team for their amazing work.
