THE YEAR OF THE SENSORY HOME |
January is always a whirlwind of "what’s out" and "what’s next." I have spent the last few weeks sifting through global design reports, runway shifts, and architectural forecasts, uncovering the defining trends shaping our homes in 2026. The verdict ? We are moving away from minimalism and toward The Lived Interior. It's a movement that prioritizes the sensory experience of dwelling over a purely composed visual. |
Here is a look at the four design directions I’ve chosen to highlight, offering a curated lens into the movements shaping the design industry in the year ahead : |
While 2025 was about muted earth tones, 2026 is richer and more intentional. The Vibe: Expect colors that feel nostalgic yet expensive. Like Deep Plums that anchor the Moody Maximalism and Liquid Amber - a molten, honeyed hue. The Contrast: We see the balance with cool colors like restorative Glacial Blue and Electric Moss - a sharp, sophisticated high fashion green edge bringing the "outdoors-in" narrative. |
Honoring the human touch through craftsmanship that creates soulful , heirloom objects. The Design: Furniture is becoming Functional Art. Rigid lines are replaced by flowing, biomorphic silhouettes, where every piece feels like a hand-carved sculpture. The Feel: This direction celebrates the "mark of the maker." It’s a return to material truth, anchored by the tactile soul of artisan-crafted timber and bespoke stonework. |
Glass has reclaimed its status as the "it" material, focusing on how light interacts with a space. The Trend: Oversized Cast Glass coffee tables or Hand-Blown glass decor in darker moody jewel tones. The Finish: Look for Fluted and Ribbed Glass on everything from lighting to cabinetry. It plays with light beautifully , softening visual noise while maintaining a clean, sophisticated line. |
If it doesn't feel good to the touch, it’s not in for 2026. Texture has become the primary language of indulgence. Heavy Texture: The beloved Bouclé has evolved into "Popcorn Weave Chenille", an even chunkier, cloud-like weave. Luxe Imperfection: We are seeing a massive return to Raw Slub Silks and Heavy Linens. Additionally, "bio-fabrics" made from mushroom or pineapple fibers have officially transitioned from niche to mainstream. |
My design mantra is simple: Comfort is the ultimate Luxury. A beautiful room is defined by how it makes you feel. Be Authentic … Choose the textures that soothe you and the palette that grounds you. Decorate for the life you live today, and watch how it feeds your soul. Warmly, |
