Issue #56 | January 20, 2026

Welcome back to Beyond the Tour where twice a month you'll receive practical tips and resources to help you get better at what you do.

Let's get started.
Miriam
If You Do One Thing This Week:
1. 👏 Tell them what they need to know.

Create an index card with quick bullet points on your school's value proposition, or the quick answer to "Why us?"

Have it laminated and branded (of course).

This is a gift to grandparents who can keep it in their shirt pocket to chime in on "Why my grandkid loves their school!" and for sideline sports ambassadors to keep in their car.

Don't overthink it. Just make it happen.

2 Tips to DO MORE:

2. 📱 Get the kids on the phone.

Create a teen-text campaign to reach out to your prospective students and parents.

The oldest kids in your school are the product. Showcase your very best to new families.

DONT let them say “Let me know if you have any questions.”
DO give them a script to share 1 magical thing about why they love your school.

It can be as simple as:
Hi, I'm Dylan, a 12th grader at Best School Ever!  I heard that Brenda is applying to high school this year, and I wanted to offer to be in touch with her. I love our school for our drama program - I'm a thespian and I hear so is she! I'd be happy to talk to you or to her about Best School Ever anytime. If I don't hear back in a few days, I'll be happy to reach out again.
Thanks!

3. 📊 Data manages hysteria.

It's numbers season!
We're all in the neighborhood of sending out re-enrollment contracts and acceptances to a whole bunch of new students.

Your Head, Board Chair and Admission Office are all going to what to know where the numbers land.

Track your enrollment numbers as compared to where you were last year at this month and this week. If you have more than 1 year of data, track the average and compare.

Data will tell you if you're sitting pretty or you need to put together that emergency Spring Open House.
