Is transparency a teachable skill?

Yes. You can build it.

One thing we’re hearing from clients right now: change is moving fast. Teams are trying to keep up. One skill makes the early difference—transparency.

When change hits, people start guessing. A delayed all-hands turns into “something’s wrong.” A new strategy meeting becomes “are we restructuring?” The gaps don’t stay empty—they get filled.

The leaders who hold steady do one thing early: they talk before they feel fully ready. They say what they know, what they’re working on, and when they’ll be back with more.

If you’re in a shift right now, try this in your next team touchpoint:

  • Start with the facts. “Here’s what’s happening and why.”
  • Name the unknowns. “Here’s what we’re still deciding.”
  • Set the next check-in. “We’ll update on Tuesday at 3.”
  • Invite questions. “If something’s unclear, ask now or message me.”
It’s simple, and it works. You’ll see fewer rumors, better questions, and steadier focus.

At Success Labs, we help leaders make this a habit—in Essentials for new managers, Accelerator for fast-moving teams, and Strategy Lab for enterprise change. If you want practice reps with feedback, our fall sessions are built for this.

🏅 Why AI Won’t Replace Human Coaches (INSEAD)
Coaching works because timing and readiness matter. Insight lands when a person is able to hear it. A skilled coach reads that readiness—when to offer a model, when to slow down, when to hold up the mirror.

What people often need: permission to not know, courage to feel what they’ve avoided, recognition of a challenging truth, or a clear reflection without a fix.
AI can supply information; a coach discerns what’s usable now—and that’s where change sticks.
