Titan Nation,

This week, we have plenty of reasons to celebrate as both our school and our scholars achieved numerous accomplishments. As a school, we had the honor of hosting a California Charter School that wanted to learn more about our identity. Individually, several of our scholars earned achievements across a variety of areas.

We are proud of every accomplishment achieved by our Titans. However, we are even more proud of the virtues they display while reaching these individual goals. The qualities we instill in our scholars help them navigate challenges and shape them into becoming successful young adults filled of wisdom and character.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Yesterday, our drama club scholars visited our Gateway Campus and hosted a special assembly for our Titans. During the assembly, our drama scholars performed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, a classical book read by our scholars. This made the performance especially meaningful, as it allowed our students to engage with the text at a higher level.

The True North Drama Program is rapidly growing. Last year, the program presented its second performance, Little Women, at Miami Dade College. Our scholars are currently preparing to host their third grand performance.

True North Speech and Debate Team
Over the weekend, our debate scholars competed in the National Civics and Debate Championship (NCDC) in Orlando, Florida. This was a three-day, triathlon-style tournament in which they participated in Extemporaneous Debate, Impromptu Speaking, and Legislative Debate. Throughout the weekend, our scholars worked together as a team, constantly supporting one another, offering encouragement, and lifting each other up.

The results for our debate scholars for the end of the fall season/start of the spring season are as follows:
  • Lily - Honor with 89 points
  • Nikolai - Honor with 80 points
  • Fran - Merit with 71 points
  • Kaitlyn - Merit with 55 points
  • Marcelo - Merit with 52 points

California Republic Leadership Academy Visit to True North
This week, our Dadeland and Sunset campus hosted the leadership team of the California Republic Leadership Academy (CRLA). CRLA is a tuition-free charter school in the classical liberal arts tradition that is rapidly growing. The purpose of their visit was to learn more about our story, school, curriculum, and growth opportunities for our teachers.

True North Classical Academy is the first charter school of its kind in Miami. Despite being a fairly young institution, we are proud to frequent the list of the best schools in the country. It is always an honor to host fellow classical education schools and serve as the blueprint for this rapidly growing model of schools.

All-State Middle School Orchestra
One of our strings scholars, Elliott Powell, participated in the All-State Middle School Orchestra, a prestigious and highly competitive ensemble composed of the state’s top young musicians. Elliott earned the position of second chair, first violin. An incredible feat that reflects his commitment to strings and his advanced level of technique. Congratulations, Elliott!

This year True North Classical Academy expanded its strings offerings through the addition of early childhood Suzuki music classes and private strings lessons. This program offers after-school private and group violin, viola, and cello lessons to children of all ages. This expansion, combined with our already prestigious strings program, has elevated our program beyond our imagination.

& Wall's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream
The True North Classical Academy Art Program has an exciting partnership with the legendary shop “Wall’s Old-Fashioned Ice Cream” (Wall's). Through this collaboration, Wall’s is offering our art scholars the opportunity to design original artwork that will be used to help market the business. The competition was open to all K–12 students, and we received several submissions celebrating all things sweet.

Last week, our faculty reviewed the entries and selected finalists across four grade categories:
  • Grades K–2
  • Grades 3–5
  • Grades 6–8
  • Grades 9–12
The selected artwork is currently on display at Wall’s, where they will be judged by members of our community. Titans, be sure to stop by this South Florida staple and vote for your favorite design! The top three entries will receive gift certificates, generously provided by Wall’s Old-Fashioned Ice Cream.

Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
Cole Lafferre, one of our student athletes, participated and won first place at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT). HJFT is one of the nation’s premier competitive junior golf circuits that attracts top junior golfers from across the country.

Cole had an outstanding performance during a highly competitive championship. He showcased both, his skill and composure throughout the tournament. Not only did place, but he outscored his competition by an impressive eight-stroke margin.

Congratulations, Cole!
