Your First Step to Video Editing

For the month of February, I’m breaking down video editing in Canva into a simple, 4-part series, highlighting small, supportive steps.

Canva was built to make video feel approachable, even if you’ve never edited a single clip before.

And please know that if video has felt overwhelming or intimidating, you’re not behind, you’re just learning something new and I'm so glad you're here.

This week, your only goal is to open a video project and place one clip in your design. That’s it. Momentum starts small and you’re already on your way.

Here’s the simplest way to get started:
1. Open Canva and search for video.
Then, choose a blank canvas or a template sized for the platform you're planning to share to.

🧸 Gentle reminder: Starting with a template isn’t “cheating.” It’s a smart way to focus on your message instead of the mechanics.
2. Upload your video clip(s) using the uploads panel.
Quick note: you might need to navigate from images to video on the uploads panel.
3. Drag your clip(s) onto the page.
You'll notice that Canva treats video scenes a lot like slides, which makes the whole process feel far less technical.
Tip Tuesday takeaway:
You don’t need to master video. You just need to start.

Have we ever chatted 1:1 or has it been a while?
