Love Is In the Air!
Stocking Shelves at the OUSD Food Pantries

The pantry shelves were waning. Necessities had become sparse and the need was great. Because of the overwhelming love and care from the local community, the food pantries in the Orange Unified School District are stocked with items that will help meet the needs of entire families.

Local families can now find food staples, hygiene kits, diapers, baby formula and other necessities at various school food pantries through the generosity of the community’s response.

These pantries operate on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. Families are encouraged to call the school ahead of time to check current availability or additional support items.

Members of Friends Church Orange and The Hub OC joined the effort by opening its doors to teachers and staff from the Orange Unified School District for its food drive, creating an atmosphere of community, one that cares about the families in the city.

Touched by the community’s continued readiness to show up for in-need families, the Hub OC is forming an action plan that would ensure the future needs of the schools and families. If you have ideas, or would like to help out, reach out at: info@thehuboc.org

This type of partnership shows what can be achieved when everyone comes together. Lives can be changed when people care.

Image: Palmyra sports program (soccer and cheer teams).
January we have returned from break and kicked off a variety of new clubs at different schools.

Last week our boys soccer team went to play a game versus another school. Our palmyra cheer team went with to cheer them on. The cheer girls also had a showcase that same evening at Orange High School.

We also have a gardening club at Chapman Hills. Our kiddos got to use their new equipment to use in their schools garden!

Next steps:
We're looking for people who would like to be guest speakers at clubs like: chess, cooking, anime, cheer, gardening, and sports. If this is you - we'd love to talk to you about it.

Image: Staff, volunteers, and partners joining forces at the Hub Resource Center.
This past month at the HRC, we’ve continued to see the power of community in action. We were grateful to host community groups and volunteers who shared their unique talents with our HRC family, bringing encouragement, connection, and meaningful engagement to our space. We also celebrated important milestones in housing and recovery, successfully referring 6 patrons to emergency shelter and 1 patron to a rehabilitation/detoxification center, where they were accepted and able to take the next steps toward stability.

On Wednesday, January 28, the HRC team helped out early in the morning and late into the night across North and Central Orange County participating in this year’s Point-in-Time Count. This county-wide effort helps estimate the number of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness on a single night, and we are proud to collaborate in gathering critical data to better understand and respond to homelessness in our communities.

Next Steps:
We are also looking ahead to hosting Orange County’s Same Day Solutions Fair at the HRC in the coming months (date to be announced). This impactful event will connect individuals to multiple services and resources in one place, helping remove barriers and provide immediate support."
