Titan Nation,

As classical education scholars, our Titans develop a thirst for the true, good, and beautiful. This means becoming individuals that are whole because they know what is true, good, and beautiful and because they want to do what is true, good, and beautiful. This week’s highlights are a direct reflection of this cultivation at different stages of their educational journey.

Our 7th graders, for example, witnessed the importance of staying true to their values and learned more about the impact that doing good has on others during their visit to our state’s capitol. Our art and drama program scholars celebrated beauty through the creation of art in different forms. Our athlete scholars proved the importance of developing not only a strong mind, but also a strong body and soul.

Scholars, the education you are receiving goes far beyond the knowledge you receive in the classroom. The education you are receiving as a True North Titan is shaping who you are as an individual – a person who is filled with knowledge, virtue, character, and goodness.

Below is your Weekly Scroll:

True North Tallahassee Civics Trip
This week, our first group of 7th graders traveled to Tallahassee, where they were able to experience civics in action. For the next two two weeks, our scholars will travel to Florida’s capital to witness the Legislative Session. This trip is special because it takes place when session moves past its halfway point and legislators are in the midst of pushing their legislative priorities.

During their visit, our scholars are able to visit the historic Old Florida Capitol Building, the Florida Supreme Court, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida House Chamber, the Florida Senate Chamber, and one of the Senate committee rooms. The varied stops throughout the trip allow our scholars to have a well-rounded visit and provides them a glimpse of how session is experienced at the different levels of government.

During the trip, our 7th graders are also exposed to some of the state’s most prestigious universities, as they stop to visit the University of Florida and Florida State University.

True North Classical Academy, Dadeland
This week, our scholars who are part of the Drama Program visited the Dadeland Campus to perform The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This is the second time our scholars have performed their rendition of this classic text to fellow Titans at another True North campus.

True North Speech & Debate Program
The True North Speech & Debate program continues to have a successful season. Our scholars are not only placing in numerous competitions but are also being challenged and growing through the program.

Most recently, they attended two separate tournaments. At Christopher Columbus High School’s Tournament, five scholars placed in the Impromptu Speaking category. The scholars who placed are:
  • Nikolay Dobikov, 2nd place
  • Lily Machin, Nina Morales, and Kaitlyn Wilson, tied for 4th place
  • Marcelo Paulucci, 7th place
Over the weekend, they attended a tournament for the Florida Civics and Debate Initiative, where two of our scholars placed in two separate categories. The notable scholars are:
  • Kaitlyn Wilson, 1st place, Legislative Debate
  • Mia Miranda, 4th place, Extemporaneous Debate
Kaitlyn’s victory was especially meaningful because this is her first gold medal since joining the team earlier this year. This victory is a direct reflection of her dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

44th Annual Miami Greek Festival
The 44th Annual Miami Greek Festival took place this past weekend, and our True North Titans’ presence was felt throughout the festivities.

Our True North Art Program participated in the festival via a tent. The tent displayed artwork such as bracelets, paintings, and ceramics created by our talented scholars. The artwork not only celebrated the rich Greek history and culture, but it also served as a reminder of the beauty found in our world.

Additionally, several of our scholars volunteered during the festival. At True North, we instill the importance of service into our scholars. As our scholars flourish into their final years in upper school, many of them surpass the graduation service requirements because of their understanding and passion for helping their community – a feat that we are incredibly proud of.
