We’re back with another edition of the PlayAbility newsletter! This time around we wanted to highlight some fantastic games that did the hard work of integrating great accessibility and received recognition in the form of shiny awards.

So without further preamble, the winner is (opens envelope and pause for dramatic effect)  … accessibility!

The Game Awards Innovation in accessibility nominees.
We start out with The Game Awards back in December where the Innovation in Accessibility award was given out by Geoff Keighley and supporting muppets (as is tradition).

Doom: The Dark Ages snagged the most recent accolades, sporting a swath of accessibility goodies like granular adjustable difficulty settings, in depth high contrast options, and audio visualization for enemy attacks.

Next we have indie darling PEAK by Aggro Crab and Landfall Games who were recognized at The Indie Game Awards.

PEAK did an admirable job implementing accessibility features after launch including remappable controls that made the game monumentally more comfortable for our Strength & Dexterity Expert, Alex Carey, to play.

Nominees for the Pégases Awards
Here’s a fun reminder that games are a global phenomenon with the upcoming nominees for the Pégases Awards out of France. The nominees include Wednesdays, Sheepherds! and Les Murmures du Soleil. Tune in soon to see who will receive the accessibility accolades and so you can practise your french Duolingo.

GaConf Awards Logo
Last but certainly not least the GaConf Awards. From AAA to indie, journalism, marketing and advocacy the GaConf Awards do a stellar job shining a spotlight on the breadth of superb work taking place across the games industry.

If you haven’t gotten the opportunity to check out the streamed award show we highly recommend making a cup of your favourite warm beverage and basking in the wonderful vibes.

Hopefully this not at all comprehensive recap gives you impetus to pick up an award winning accessible game and give it a try.

Until next time go play some wonderful accessible games!
