As we enter this critical moment in Sonny’s case, our goal is to bring this community closer together by sharing timely updates, clear actions, and the information needed to keep mercy firmly in the public conversation.
These newsletters will continue as long as this fight continues. We’re grateful you’re here.
latest update(s)
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has set an execution date of March 12 for Sonny.
As March 12 approaches, we are working with urgency to ensure Sonny’s story is fully understood, his humanity is recognized, and that mercy remains a real and visible option. What happens in the coming weeks matters deeply, not only for Sonny and his loved ones, but for the values we uphold as a community.
upcoming actions & events
Mercy Mondays Weekly Vigil
What: Weekly vigils beginning February 9 and going through March 9
Time: 7:30am-8:30am
Where: The public sidewalk in front of the Governor’s Mansion | 1142 S. Perry Street, Montgomery, AL
Supporters are invited to stand together in a visible, peaceful call to pause, reflect, and center human dignity, mercy, and justice. The time and location were chosen intentionally to make it easier for local supporters with standard work schedules to participate. We hope many in the Team Sonny community will be able to join in standing together for Sonny, and for the principle that an execution in his case would represent a profound injustice.
24-hour vigil
february 16
February 16 (a federal holiday) marks 24 days before Sonny’s execution date.
We will hold a 24-hour vigil to mark this date. Team Sonny supporters are invited to take shifts around-the-clock to demonstrate we will NOT give up our quest for justice to be served in a case where mercy and justice are the exact same thing.
