February is the month of love and friendship. It's an ideal time to celebrate love in its many forms, and by extension, time to highlight all the little things that we appreciate. So this month, follow along with us as we share the people and things that make CASW what it is  … |

Why We Need Both Art And Science |
Growing up, you probably heard people refer to themselves as either an art or science person; in fact, you’ve probably already already categorized yourself based on certain criteria. Maybe you’re a math whiz but if someone puts you in front of an easel, you’ll only produce stick figures. Or maybe you can read full-length novels in one sitting and write a 5 page essay with little complaint, but the idea of working in a laboratory setting bores you to tears. Or, it’s absolutely possible that you’re somewhere in the middle, which is good! Often in life, we’ll need skills from both fields; and at CASW, we try to impart this piece of wisdom to all our participants in an effort to educate the well-rounded leaders of tomorrow.… |

celebrating valentine's day @ ps/ms 37… |
Love is in the air, and ur students at PS/MS 37 celebrated love and friendship through a Valentine’s Day dance - a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and tell the people closest to us how much they’re appreciated. The event took place in the school gymnasium - which was decorated with balloons and hearts (in pink and red of course!). Students not only had the chance to snack on baked goods and take some photos, but even had the chance to watch the dance club perform a routine they practiced for the event! |

STUDENTS LEARN LAB SKILLS WITH BIOBUS @ PS 115 … |
Over Winter break, our CASW-COMPASS students at PS 115 had the opportunity to brush up on their laboratory skills with BioBus - a mobile laboratory that specializes in bringing hands-on science education to K-12 students. Our participants were able to see biological studies and concepts firsthand, using equipment to observe specimens and other biological processes. As always, we're elated for any opportunity to spark their curiosity and encourage them to ask more questions about the world around them! |

WLG phase ii: financial literacy, reflections, and more … |
Financial literacy sounds like an intimidating concept; if you ask anyone, chances are that you’ll receive a different answer each time. It’s no wonder that most adults are intimidated by the term, let alone teens or kids! However, here at CASW, our WLG participants had the valuable opportunity to explore just what financial literacy is all about, and even had the chance to apply what they learned by teaching it to younger peers… |
In other news, CASW-Workforce held an in-person WLG reflection activity for participants - where they had a chance to look back on the program so-far and even talk to potential employers. This was also a key opportunity for the media team to interview a couple participants about their experiences and hopes for the future. Stay tuned to as we release their takes on WLG, college majors, and more… |

When it comes to getting your dream job, hands-on experience is a must! Of course, the theory and skills learned in the classroom is just one piece of the puzzle, but often, it becomes necessary to provide youth with the opportunities to gain experience in a real workplace setting. Apply NOW (deadline has been extended to 3/13/26) and learn how YOU can make your dreams come true… |
We often say that so much of the work we do is made possible by our supportive community, and this is especially true for our donors. This month, CASW would like to extend our special thanks to Monika Pierce for her generous donation of several books for our older participants. Â We exist because we believe in the potential of our youth, so it means the world for us when others invest in our mission!!! |
CASW's impact goes beyond arts and science. We spark creativity, ignite potential, and nurture the self-belief of at-risk youth. Together, we unlock their dreams. Â Every child deserves a chance to shine. Your support fuels CASW's mission, empowering at-risk youth to become confident, contributing members of society. Join us in building a brighter tomorrow! |
