Hi First name / Slothy!

The fact that you opened this email tells me you view yourself as a marketer, which you definitely are, even if your current title doesn't reflect that.

We’re all marketers to an extent. We’re all tasked with promoting our talents and expertise.

So it felt appropriate to dedicate this issue to MARKETING.

And we’ll kick it off with a little storytime.

At a recent biz owner meetup, something unexpected happened. A few fellow women founders mentioned that they really enjoy my storytelling. Which honestly surprised me.

Because I rarely get direct feedback like that. Most of the time, I’m just sharing and hoping it lands.

So hearing that? It validated me more than I realized I needed. It made me dust off the content creation cobwebs and keep going.

But what struck me even more was how the conversation unfolded after that.

One business owner shared that she feels like she has ZERO stories. Or that no one would want to hear hers.

She then continued to share that she was raised by immigrant parents and deeply wanted to speak out about ICE and the atrocities happening in Minnesota. She runs a design agency focused on amplifying social impact organizations.

Despite seeing a clear connection to her values, she wasn’t sure how to best share this personal story.

She was questioning whether it was appropriate for her primary marketing channel or worth posting at all.

And my biz bestie and I both looked at her when she was done pouring her heart out to us and said the same thing:

That story is ABSOLUTELY worth sharing.

And surprisingly, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen accomplished women with incredible stories silence themselves out of fear of coming off imperfect. My clients and friends will focus so much on delivering their story perfectly that they end up not sharing it at all.

It’s wild how quickly we disqualify ourselves. How fast we critique and hold ourselves back from being and showing our true selves.

I do it too! It's part of the reason I've been in a creative rut this year.

But our stories, our imperfections, and our experiences are what set us apart.

The more we overthink, the heavier it gets.

Something that should feel light and connective starts to feel like a burden.

It becomes another mental tab open. Another thing to optimize. Another invisible weight. That's the mental load of marketing.

And if you’re leading a team, creating based on shoulds, and thinking for everyone else… that extra load is what tips it from fun to exhausting. That’s when I encourage marketers to disconnect and step back so they can rediscover what once brought them so much joy.

So now I’m curious:

Have you ever held back a story because you thought it wasn’t “worth” sharing?

Hit reply and tell me. I really want to know.

XOXO,
Renee

What’s New
“Under the Canopy”
This week’s blog is about a simple shift that brings the “social” back to social media.

Not more strategy. Not more content. Not more pressure.

Just ONE small habit that makes everything feel lighter again.

If you’ve been feeling like posting is just another item on your to-do list — instead of something energizing — I wrote this for you.

LIFE AT SAVVY SLOTH & HOW TO WORK WITH ME
I’m honored to share that Savvy Sloth Strategies is eligible for the QuickBooks Small Business Hero Program, which awards a $20,000 grant to small business owners who have shown courage, perseverance, and integrity — but I can’t nominate myself.

If you believe in the work I do to help busy professionals and women-led businesses lighten their mental load and create more clarity at home and work, I would be so grateful if you’d consider submitting a quick nomination on my behalf. Nominations are due May 15. Your support could help Savvy Sloth continue serving our community with sustainable systems that reduce overwhelm and support long-term success.

And if you're like but I haven't had a chance to experience the Savvy Sloth effect, I totally get it! No pressure to submit a nomination, but definitely get on the list to experience all things Savvy! Our available March and April spots are below:
