After a deep-freeze winter here in Appalachia, and a winter visit to Yellowstone National Park, I recently took a much needed warm-weather trip with a group of 10 adventurous folks to the remote jungle of Costa Rica. Though there was photography involved (of course), this trip was also focused on kayaking, hiking, and movement. It was a mostly off-grid experience in a roadless coastal area on Golfo Dulce in the southwestern part of the country. I have always loved high adventure, and this trip qualified! I'll be sharing those images with you down the road a bit…
Now that I'm back, it seems that spring is fully upon us here in the Blue Ridge Mountains! The redbud trees (and so many others) are flowering, the skunk cabbage has appeared, and the birds are filled with expectation! I'm excited to be planning an extended road trip down to Great Smoky Mountains National Park next month - there truly is nothing quite like the bountiful spring we experience here in the heart of Appalachia…
As
Circle of Light prepares to release our new ebook next month, I've been thinking a lot about the concept of place, how it relates to my photography practice, and what that means to me personally. So this month, I wrote a little about “
My Why” - why I have chosen the path of a landscape and nature photographer.
I also wanted to give you some practical information that you can apply in your own photography practice, so I've published part one of a two part free educational series on “Seeing in Sets.”
There's more to share, and I'm grateful to have this space to bring you along. Here's what else you can find in this edition of The Art of Place:
- Circle of Light Reflects - in this blog post for Circle of Light, I share about the nature of my connection with Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
- Pre-Launch Pricing Announcement for The Nature of Place: Personal Narratives in Landscape Photography
