ISSUE #30 | February 23, 2026

Hi, it's Miriam.

Welcome back to the At Work Tune Up, your insider’s playbook with practical, quick, tips on how to keep things happy and healthy at work.

We spend a lot of time at work. We should love what we do.

Let's get started.

This week's tip for your toolbox:

Start with the basics.

Take a minute today and ask, “What is the one thing we need to do right now to stay focused on our goal?”

Whatever comes to mind, simplify it.
Then simplify it again.

I’m writing this as the Olympics are winding down. During the men’s hockey gold medal game between the USA and Canada, the camera caught team leader Brady Tkachuk saying to his teammates, “Be confident. Be confident.

Athletes competing at the highest level still need the simplest reminder in the biggest moments.

The same is true for teams at work.
Start with the most basic move, and execute it well.
This week's tune-up:

Come up with the one thing to tune up your team.
State for yourself why this is important.

Use this worksheet to get your thoughts organized.

For example, Brady Tkachuk's worksheet would look something like this:

▶️ The one thing we need: Be Confident.
▶️ This is important because: We know how to play hockey. We're just getting intimidated.
▶️ Result: Hitting our plays. Scoring goals. We are going to win this game for America.

If you know your team's Working Geniuses and Frustrations, consider how how they may be showing up and impacting day to day performance of your team.

Get as granular and basic as you can.
Gold medal teams playing at the highest level need to be reminded to Be confident.

Think about what one thing your team needs, and remind them.
You'll be happy you did.

Try it. Let me know how it goes.

If this newsletter resonates with you, here are three more ways I can help:
  1. Follow me on LinkedIn or Instagram for bite-sized tips throughout the week (free).
  2. Work with me for 1:1 executive coaching or strategy consulting. Hit reply and I’ll send you a few questions to see if we’re a fit.
  3. Book me as a retreat facilitator or speaker. I've never met a team that regretted investing in time away from the office to reset. I'd love to work with you. Please reply to this email or email me directly.
I’m a teacher at heart, and love helping people get better at what they do.

Small changes make a big difference.

Just get started.

Miriam
