March in Kansas always brings change, longer days, greener pastures, and the return of spring fire weather.
After the recent wildfires across the state, we are especially mindful of the firefighters who worked under incredibly difficult conditions to protect lives, property, and communities. We are deeply grateful to our Kansas Forest Service staff and the many local fire departments who stood side by side on the fireline. In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find resources on protecting your home from wildfire, to ensure our communities remain resilient in the wake of wildfires.
We also highlight the majestic blackjack oak as our feature tree, share a new podcast episode exploring the Kansas River and the people who care for it, and offer the opportunity to join a conversation with the Kansas Farm Bureau about the important connection between forestry and agriculture.
We have also selected the cities for our 2026 Callery pear buyback events: Wichita, Ellsworth, and Manhattan! Those events will be the week of May 11th. We will send out the sign-up and additional event details through this newsletter in the coming weeks.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to stay connected with the work happening across Kansas!
Enjoy!
