Street Patrol Hero: Coventry BID Officer Recognised for Courage Under Pressure
Image item
On 16th January, Coventry BID Street Patrol responded to a call for assistance regarding a violent shoplifter.

Upon arrival, Azeez from the Street Patrol team was confronted with a male attempting to escape from security staff. The situation was rapidly escalating, with threats and aggression increasing. Throughout the incident, Azeez made continuous efforts to de-escalate the situation, despite being assaulted in the process.

Officers from the West Midlands Police Response Team, coordinated by PC Conor Randall via police radio and the BIDs retail radio network, responded swiftly to the incident and took the male into custody without delay.

PC Randall, Team One St Michael's, Coventry writes, “Despite being faced with a volatile individual who was actively resisting and attempting to flee — and despite being assaulted during the incident — Azeez Jinadu demonstrated exemplary restraint, professionalism, and composure. CCTV footage shows him being pushed with enough force to nearly knock him to the ground. Remarkably, he neither retaliated nor withdrew. Instead, he calmly returned to the male and resumed dialogue in the same measured and controlled tone he maintained throughout the ordeal.”

“Azeez is a credit to the Street Patrol team and a strong example of the professionalism and partnership working that keeps the city safe. As a member of a partner agency, I feel it is important to formally recognise and highlight his outstanding conduct in such challenging circumstances.”

“As a result of Azeez’s actions, Professional Security and Coventry BID formally recognise and award Azeez Jinadu for his exceptional courage and calm professionalism, setting an outstanding example to colleagues and partner agencies alike.”

Congratulations Azeez on this well-deserved award.
