Gabriella Sanchez knows what it’s like not to have designer purses, the latest fashions and perfect look, things that can define a teen girl. She also knows what it’s like not to have basic needs, such as food and healthcare, things that can define a human being.
“I’ve been at the poverty line, below the line and I know what it means,” Gabriella, 23, said. “And I know what it means to give back, what it means for other people to help you in your time of need. I understand how powerful it is for people.”
Her heart for those less fortunate combined with her childhood experiences, led Gabriella to the Hub Resource Center, where she volunteers by serving meals, checking in patrons or finding them clothes in the Goods for Good distribution center.
At The Hub OC, we strive to meet the physical, relational and emotional needs of our community through the time and talents of our volunteers. For Gabriella, volunteering is a way to make a difference in someone’s life, much like others did for her.
Gabriella, who is studying family law at UC Davis, received support from her teachers and mentors. “I feel because I've had a strong foundation with people giving their time and energy to make me the person I am today, I would like to do the same for others.”
If you, like Gabriella, want to give back to those in our community, check out the available volunteer opportunities across each of the Hub programs.
