Hello First name / friend

It’s far and few between that I get any visitors here in Senegal, but recently my dear friend Jenny Webster—who is from Monterey Peninsula, California as well—and a true ambassador for the Senegal Health Institute, came to visit. She has been coming to Senegal for longer than I have and has many connections in a village called Abene, where she stays, which is about 20 minutes from where the Senegal Health Institute and I are located.

As a long-time supporter of SHI, Jenny has advocated for us for many years, including starting an upcycled clothing business called One Woman Two Fires, whose proceeds are donated to the Senegal Health Institute. Jenny and I had a great time getting together on several occasions; she even came and hung out at our Birth Center, where she saw how we operate and met all of our midwives.

I know she also had a wonderful time gathering African fabrics for her clothing business, catching up with old friends, eating Senegalese dishes, taking bucket showers, and going on unpredictable adventures. Visiting with Jenny is extra special to me, as she deeply understands the culture, with all its chaos, hardships, and mysteries—which is rare and I am looking forward to her returning in the future!

If you are interested in seeing more of Jenny’s upcycled clothing, you can contact her on Instagram (@onewomantwofires) or email her at (jeneba2013@gmail.com), for a private appointment. In the month of March, she’ll be at the Santa Cruz Makers Market on Pacific Ave in Santa Cruz (March 15th).
