Hi First name / friend! Let's catch up. |
February is over! What's next… |
March sounds like a call to action. March! And with the end of winter almost in sight, maybe it is the perfect time to get involved in action: march, speak up, scream, make art, and advocate for those whose voices have been taken away. Unsubscribe from big corporations - it's the absolute least we can do. Get away from virtue signaling on the internet (there's so much of that already) and out of your house to volunteer with an organization. See people in person. That one's a biggie. Since we wrote to you last, another war was started by Israel and the United States. We see it for what it is: a gesture of imperialism and pure, unbridled, endless greed. A shameful distraction from an investigation that has been shaking the world. Since the ultra-rich ego-maniacs want us to feel powerless, tell us: What’s giving you energy, helping you recoup, learn, recommit to making things at least a little better? Here is what has been transpiring at Thrift 2 Fight… |
Pictured: three winners of the Speed Friending Raffle! These lucky attendees got a $100 Thrift 2 Fight gift card and two boxes of pastries from Little Loaf Bakeshop. |
We amplified and raised money for an incredible local immigrant justice organization, Ulster Rapid Response. More on that below! We also organized a couple of great events in February that helped forge new connections in our community and build some tangible skills. |
Highlights: Felting Workshop & Speed Friending |
Caitlin Harris led our needle felting workshop, and everyone went home with at least one mended and embellished sweater. Finn and Masha joined the team at Little Loaf Bakeshop in New Paltz for a speed friending event, which was a hit! |
FUNDRAISING Update & Recipient |
In February we raised $1,080 for Ulster Rapid Response. We will continue raising funds for them in March. Because how could we not. |
Ulster Rapid Response (URR) network is a community-based deportation defense group that mobilizes people and resources to protect immigrants from ICE. Founded in 2025, URR focuses on documenting immigration enforcement and sharing ‘know-your-rights’ information. Donate to them here. Tax-deductible donations over $500 can be made by check to Good Work Institute with Ulster Rapid Response in the memo, and sent to 65 St. James St., Kingston NY 12401 If you don't care about whether your gift is tax-deductible, email us and we'll tell you how to write a check for Ulster Rapid Response directly (this means they won't have to pay any processing fees). |

- Wild Souls by Emma Marris – amazing book of different perspectives on the ethics of controlling animal populations to preserve biodiversity.
- Fearless, Sleepless, Deathless by Maria Pinto - what mushrooms can teach us about nourishment, poison, ecology, hidden histories, zombies, and Black survival. Pinto has fantastic sense of humor! A joy to read (and a local author!).
