We open with a classic: “The Man Hollywood Wants to Kill.”
 We sat down with Dylan Smith, an actor whose work spans far more than the roles that don’t make it to the credits. You’ve seen him across deserts, battlefields, and everything in between. We spoke about his death, longevity, typecasting, and the strange reality of becoming recognisable in fleeting moments.

About 2 years ago a mutual friend brought a guy named Dylan Smith to our Fitzroy studio for a Friday arvo knock-off drink. He was in Melbourne doing press for his role in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings. Within an hour, we had the cameras out filming a fake beer ad together.

 

That’s Dylan. 20+ years in the game. Shared screens with Tom Cruise, Hugo Weaving, Gary Oldman. But also the kind of guy who’ll jump in front of a camera to make something stupid with a bunch of people he met forty minutes ago. We’ve been mates since.

 

One of the sweetest, most genuine humans we’ve come across. A true artist you could get lost talking to about acting for hours.

He’s also really really good at dying on camera. 26 on-screen deaths and counting.

 

So to kick off the year, we sat him down and asked him to rank his Top 5 on screen deaths. It gets weird. It gets fucking brutal. And the Donald Sutherland story is something else entirely. Enjoy.
