Glitch & Bitch
In the span of the Star Wars universe, sometimes the rebels make progress, and sometimes the Empire/Republic gets us down.

The Churn is Why People Leave
→ First, we talked about the ebb & flow of business ownership – ‘stable’ businesses dropping like flies, and how it can be so exhausting and people just want a stable job.
→ People take coffee shop jobs and bar tending jobs - for their sanity, for stability, to meet people, or because their skills translate.

“How am I so busy and not making enough money?”
Can you relate??

What's a busy season or a slow season?
→ Jan/Feb is slow for many. Others say summers are slow.
Hard to tell true metrics with such small sample sizes from small business owners
→ It does seem like insane world events make people's wallets close up.

What to do When Things are Slow?
→ LG took some time to fall back in love with her craft, and it ended up getting her work.
→ KL had a slow six months, then crammed as much work as possible into the last six months. (Not advisable)
→ Kate Christy likes to stack work on top of work like a 12-layer cake.
→ When your bookings are slow, it's time to do big in-house projects!

How to fill in the gaps
→ 3-6 month check-ins with past clients
→ Share how you can help with marketing and maintenance at the front and end of projects
→ Do spec work and show it off (for photo)

Marketing Consistency to Help with Churn
→ Multiple-a-day posting got a resounding BOOOO. Valuable, artful, human stuff is where its at.
→ Pick one space (like newsletter) that is your non-negotiable bare minimum you can keep up.
→ Jillian said her monthly in-person happy hour has become great accountability for marketing
→ Erin said she focused on her blog & newsletter last year and literally put those tasks on her calendar!
→ If you hate Instagram, use it as an ‘at-a-glance' portfolio/directory
→ Usually, the methods that bring us joy also bring us the work we enjoy

Sidequest Conversation: How to Make YouTube Lower Effort
→ OBS software tethers a camera & screen records, space bar to pause, low to no editing
→ Using photobooth and screen recording like this video
