March 2026 | Issue No. 70

Hello March!
Hello and welcome to this month's newsletter. I’m so glad you’re here. Spring is in the air… can you feel it? We’re standing at the threshold of fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s also the season when the calendar begins to fill again-with gallery openings, art shows, festivals, and all sorts of inspiring events that invite us back out into the world and into community. This month, I’m excited to share an upcoming art show and introduce you to an incredible photographer whose work is as captivating as her story.

One of the greatest gifts from my real estate career is the people I’ve met along the way. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to form lasting friendships with some truly remarkable humans. This month’s feature is a perfect example of that. I first met Nancy 29 years ago when she and her husband were searching for a home in Rio Rancho with room for a portrait studio. We found the perfect place, and they've made their home there ever since. It’s hard to believe how many years have passed since that first showing, but it’s a wonderful reminder that real estate is never just about houses; it’s about relationships, community, and celebrating one another across many seasons of life.

"Dreams and Space" was accepted into the NM Magazine Photos of the Year contest, as well as the ANMPAS show.
Obviously, I love real estate. I’ve devoted the past 31 years of my life to it. But what I truly love is getting to know the people inside the homes. Their stories, passions, and journeys are what keep me inspired, especially on the days when the world feels chaotic or heavy. I guess that’s why I share so much art and creative content here. It’s my happy place outside of real estate. When those two worlds collide-home and creativity-it always feels serendipitous. Over the last three decades, I’ve been fortunate to meet so many talented and fascinating people from diverse backgrounds. Each one brings their own perspective, experiences, and creative spirit. I’m endlessly inspired by the stories they share. It means the world to me that clients who started as customers-like Nancy-become friends over time, and continue to support my business by referring their friends and family when they need a Realtor.

That trust is something I never take for granted.
The mutual admiration is very real. And it’s one of the most meaningful parts of this work.

New Mexico Photographer Nancy Haseman

Nancy Haseman’s connection to photography began at an early age. By the time she was 8 years old, she was captivated by taking photos. One of her fondest memories is of her Swinger Black & White Instant Polaroid camera, the kind that made the magic of capturing a moment feel immediate and real. What began as childhood curiosity revealed itself to be something deeper: a true calling that never faded over the years. A rare and lasting gift.

Nancy went on to earn a Fine Arts degree with a major in Photography, continuing to follow that creative spark wherever it led. Her journey eventually brought her to Albuquerque, where she applied to the graduate photography program at the University of New Mexico. Even though she wasn’t accepted into the program…life had other plans. Nancy and her husband decided to stay. New Mexico has been home ever since.
For a photographer, it’s hard to imagine a more inspiring place to land. The light, the landscape, and the wide open skies of the Southwest have long been a source of endless creative inspiration. Here, surrounded by the colors and textures of the high desert, Nancy’s artistic vision continued to grow and evolve, shaped by the beauty of the land she now calls home.

"Bursting Forth" received a Merit Award Shades of Gray Show.
In the late 1990s, when her husband Rick found himself between jobs, Nancy took a leap of faith and started a portrait photography business. What began as a practical step soon became another meaningful chapter in her creative life. For years, she worked with clients to capture portraits that revealed not just a likeness, but the beauty and personality within each individual. Those years spent connecting with people, working with color, composition, and design, remain some of her most cherished.

Today, at 70 years young, Nancy finds herself in the sweet spot of her artistic journey. Fine Art Photography. Looking back, she sees the transition from film to digital photography as a pivotal moment in her career. She began her business during that technological shift, navigating the learning curve of a changing medium and expanding her creative access to shape her work.
These days, Nancy can often be found exploring the breathtaking landscapes of New Mexico with her camera in hand, capturing the beauty of the land through both digital and infrared photography. The high desert’s light, texture, and atmosphere offer endless inspiration, and her images reflect the quiet magic of the places she encounters along the way.

You can see Nancy’s work up close later this month at the InSight Fine Art Photography Show at Expo New Mexico (Old Fairgrounds) in the historic Fine Arts Building on Main Street. This annual show runs March 22 through April 12 and celebrates the work of talented photographers from across New Mexico.

The Opening Reception will take place on March 21 from 2-4pm. After that, the exhibition is open daily from 10am-5pm, except Wednesdays and Easter Sunday. Parking is free on weekdays, with a small fee on weekends. Nancy will also be volunteering at the show on Friday, March 27 from 10am-1:30pm, welcoming visitors and helping guide them through the exhibition. If you’d like to stop by and say hello, that would be the perfect time. I know she would love to meet you!

The InSight show has continued to thrive and grow for many years thanks to the dedication of volunteers and exhibiting artists like Nancy, who generously give their time to support and sustain our vital local photography community.

A little more about the show itself…

The Annual New Mexico Photography Art Show (ANMPAS) was founded in 2009 by LeRoy Perea, who envisioned creating a space where photographers could exhibit and sell their work in a true fine art gallery setting. Over the years, the show has evolved into two seasonal exhibitions: the vibrant spring color show, InSight, and the fall exhibition Shades of Gray, which celebrates black and white photography. This year’s InSight show features 181 works of art created by 94 New Mexican photographers, offering visitors an inspiring glimpse into the diverse perspectives and landscapes that shape photography across our state.

Nancy has participated in this show alongside many remarkable artists for several years and has had the joy of selling five of her photographs through the show. A testament not only to the quality of her work, but also to the supportive and collaborative spirit that makes New Mexico’s creative community so special.
Both exhibitions are open to photographers living throughout New Mexico, with the goal of encouraging, supporting, and celebrating the state’s rich tradition of photographic art and the artists who continue to shape it.

Nancy’s work has been featured in a number of exhibitions both here in New Mexico and beyond. She is affiliated with the New Mexico Art League and is also involved with her church community at New Life City, where artwork is displayed and additional monthly shows are curated. Spaces like Gallery ABQ and the Corrales Old Church Fine Arts Show create wonderful opportunities for the community to gather and experience the work of local artists. These venues celebrate creativity in all its forms and provide a place where artists and neighbors alike can come together to appreciate the artistic spirit that lives within.

"Stillness" is an infrared photo converted to a black & white and was accepted into Shades of Gray and the Corrales Old Church show.
For Nancy, being part of these creative communities has been both meaningful and inspiring, allowing her to share her work while supporting the broader network of artists who continue to shape Albuquerque’s vibrant arts scene.

One of the cherished parts of my career has been witnessing the lives and passions that unfold inside the homes I’ve helped people find. Nancy’s story is a beautiful reminder that the connections we make through real estate often grow far beyond a single transaction. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching her creative journey continue to evolve, shaped by the landscapes of New Mexico and the communities she’s been part of along the way. It’s relationships like this-built on trust, shared history, and mutual support-that make this work so meaningful to me. Celebrating the talents, stories, and accomplishments of the people I’ve met truly feels like the best part of the job.

Thanks for joining me here this month, it's such an honor that you choose to spend this time with me. I'm excited to share more soon about an upcoming project I've been working on that will bring even more of this content to you. Now more than ever connecting the Albuquerque community with the real estate world feels important as a resource and place to meet and share.
Thank you for being part of this community with me. It’s always a joy to share the stories, places, and people that make Albuquerque such a special place to call home. See you next month!
