Newsletter Update: Strengthening Our Collective Response to GBV
Across Zimbabwe, individuals, corporates, and community organisations are increasingly stepping forward to support a coordinated response to gender-based violence (GBV). The We Are One Fund initiative continues to grow because of partners like you who believe in the power of collective action.
This edition of One Community | One Response highlights recent milestones that strengthen our shared mission and build momentum for the We Are One Fund digital fundraising platform.
Beyond the funds raised, the event demonstrated an important shift - more men and corporate leaders stepping forward to actively support organisations working on the frontlines with GBV survivors. The contributions and commitments will directly strengthen the We Are One Fund platform and expand the resources available to registered frontline organisations.
Welcoming New Corporate Partners
Another exciting milestone for the initiative was the arrival of corporate partners Premium Leaf Tobacco, Southland Regional, Green Fuel, OxProp, joining our growing list of corporate gender champions.
Joining us at Platinum level status is Premium Leaf Tobacco, while Southland Regional joins us as a Gold partner and Green Fuel, together with OxProp are silver partners. These contributions mark a significant step toward building a sustainable ecosystem of corporate support for We Are One Fund. Corporate partnerships play a critical role in strengthening long-term investment into GBV responses by helping ensure that organisations supporting survivors have reliable access to funding.
This partnership signals growing confidence from the private sector in the platform’s ability to channel resources where they are needed most.
Following an initial needs assessment with 14 communications personnel from organisations registered on the We Are One Fund platform, key capacity gaps were identified in areas such as digital storytelling, audience engagement, and linking communication efforts to fundraising outcomes. These insights directly informed the design and delivery of the Communicating for Impact training.
The three-day training, which was held from March 3-5, brought together 14 communications focal persons for practical, skills-focused sessions aimed at strengthening how organisations position their work, strategically tell their stories online, engage supporters of their work, and communicate impact more effectively. Sessions covered core areas including crafting compelling narratives, aligning messaging with fundraising objectives, and optimising digital platforms to reach and retain audiences.

Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, peer learning, and facilitated discussions that allowed them to apply concepts to their organisational contexts. The training also created space for organisations to reflect on their current communication approaches and identify actionable improvements.
Overall, participant feedback was highly positive, with all facilitators and sessions receiving satisfaction ratings above 90%. This reflects both the relevance of the training content and its practical value to participating organisations as they continue to leverage the platform to strengthen visibility, engagement, and resource mobilisation.
Raising Awareness through Sofar Sounds Partnership
On Saturday, March 21st, the We Are One Fund partnered with Sofar Sounds to deliver a concert as part of Women’s Month. The concert was an intimate musical experience that brought together audiences at Chapungu Sculpture Park for an afternoon that blended artistic expression with social impact.
The lineup featured a unique fusion of mbira and violin alongside an all-women lineup, all under the guided eye of 6 aspiring female sound engineers. Proceeds from the concert directly supported the Fund, reinforcing its core objective of mobilising resources for frontline organisations responding to gender-based violence.

Beyond fundraising, the concert also amplified the Fund’s broader vision of collective action. Other partners at the event included the Dutch Embassy, the Emerald Climate Hub, and StarFM. The gathering brought together artists, partners, and audiences around a shared cause—demonstrating that creative industries can play a catalytic role in driving awareness, shifting narratives, and encouraging contributions toward ending GBV.
Watch out for our next issue to learn more about the disbursement of the funds given.
Looking Ahead: Building a Community of Long-Term Partners
The progress we are seeing - from corporate engagement to strengthened communication capacity - reinforces the growing momentum behind a community-driven response to GBV in Zimbabwe.
As the platform continues to evolve, we invite individuals, corporates, and institutions to consider becoming long-term partners in this initiative. Sustainable support enables frontline organisations to strengthen, amplify survivor-centred services, and build a coordinated national response.
Together, we can ensure that no organisation responding to GBV stands alone - and no survivor is left without support.
If you are interested in learning more about partnership opportunities or supporting the digital fundraising platform, we would be glad to connect.
