We are avowed coffee snobs and are not afraid to admit it. Coffee is also a product where rampant exploitation has occurred over decades, and lots of buzzy marketing terminology has lulled many folks into believing it's all in the past. So we love that Caffè D'Amore brews and sells Deeper Roots beans, out of Cincinnati, for a couple of reasons:
  • Most non-roasting cafes in the Pittsburgh region brew the beans roasted by one of a small handful of local roasters, with varying quality. A couple of the best are well-loved standards in our kitchen. But as self-described coffee snobs who love a light roast with nuanced flavor profiles, there is something to be said for deviating from the standard to delight the palate.
  • Deeper Roots Direct Trade (DRDT) centers around relationship, quality, environmental responsibility, and transparency. They roast an excellent bean while paying 2-3x more for coffee than most coffee trade certifications require, supporting the financial sustainability of the coffee farmers and producers they work with. They value each touch point with their product and see the big picture beyond just the bottom line.
This dedication to ethically sourcing quality is replicated throughout what you see available at CDA because Sarah knows that enjoyment, care for our bodies, communities, and the planet are all intertwined. We don't always see folks who talk the talk about community and ethics that also follow through on walking the walk. So it was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to help CDA reinvigorate their online presence.
What we love about working with Caffè D'Amore:
  • Sarah is a funny, generous, and thoughtful person. Full stop.
  • It's delicious. They make a mean cortado (Sam's latest obsession) and have a really droolworthy food menu. In-person meetings always include tea, soup, or something else yummy.
  • It's colorful and quirky. In between the mugs and tea on the shop shelves are local art, plants, cards, flyers for community resources, books, and more. This is a great spot to meet a friend, client, etc., but also if you just need a place to escape doomscrolling and rest your eyes on anything but a screen, there is so much here to pull your focus in the best way.
We're hardcore homebodies these days, but when we find ourselves in Lawrenceville, we head to CDA. And if you have an in-person meeting with us in the future, be prepared for us to just schedule that meeting at CDA - we love to find reasons to go more often.

We take great pleasure in highlighting our clients whenever the opportunity arises, as we genuinely appreciate their work and support their goals.
Thank you for being a part of our community,

Sam + Nathan
