Dear Sunday Sparkers,

Notice the craving.
Notice how much power it has over you.
Notice when you can’t stand regular conversations, and you want to be alone with it.
Notice the eagerness for the new, the funny, the shocking, and the fascinating when you look at it.
Notice how rude using it with others is making you look, but you don’t even care anymore.
Notice how it is stealing your life hours and your life energy, because you don’t have much of either after being with it for a while.

If you think it is your willpower, it is not.
It is a battle, and you are always the loser.
Who is the winner, you ask?
It is them.
The attention managers who are plotting against you.
You don’t even have a chance.
Unless…

Unless you don’t use it as an alarm clock.
Unless you stay apart for the first 30 minutes of the day.
Unless it is literally out of reach while you are working.
Unless it is in the other room when you are with your kids.
Unless it does not live on your nightstand.
Unless it is not the last thing you see before you turn in.
Unless you use tools, rules, and accountability to use it responsibly.

This is how you win.
This is how you don’t miss it.
Your one beautiful life.

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️a newsletter listing 3 sparks that I thought were worth starting your week with.

1. I will base the Phone Challenge on the book How to Break Up with Your Phone. Be sure to read it soon and follow the inspiring author Catherine Price. Her joint work with Jonathan Haidt, The Amazing Generation, is a much-anticipated book I’ve been eager to receive and share with my kids since February but, like many shipments, it’s been delayed. This comic-style book will help your kids embrace a healthier relationship with their phones now.

2. 📚 📵 My digital awakening started in 2019 when I read the book: Digital Minimalism (Available in Arabic) and my first TV interview was about it. I later created a podcast episode based on the book to highlight our unhealthy relationships with our phones, then shared updates about my (second) one-month digital decluttering challenge in short follow up episodes. Years later, this topic is even more urgent! That's why I am so excited about this challenge.

💬 This quote mentioned in Catherine Price's book freaked me out:
"I had these people who would come up to me and they would say, “I'm not on social media…I value my real-life interactions. I value the moment. I value presence and I value intimacy.” And I would say,…“We'll get you eventually.”'
