Giant dragons, Morris dancers, music and a vibrant mix of folk and creative activities will bring Broadgate to life to celebrate St George’s Day, as Coventry City Council hosts two free events next month.

 

The fun-filled, drop-in event on Thursday 23 April will run from 11am – 3pm and is open to all, with Morris dancers and giant walkabout dragons adding to the atmosphere.

 

Celebrations will continue on Saturday 25 April with a second free event, where families with children of all ages can enjoy a fantastic day of music, hands-on arts and crafts, and giant dragon characters roaming through Broadgate.

 

From Thursday 23 April – Saturday 25 April the free city centre Dragon Trail will also return. Youngsters can hunt for St George's lost dragons around the city centre, and those who find them all will be able to claim a prize.

Tickets are now on sale for biggest night of the year

 

The celebration event for the Coventry & Warwickshire Business and Community Awards, presented by Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Thursday, April 23 at the Belgrade Theatre.

 

Over sixty businesses, community groups and individuals from across the region have been shortlisted as finalists for the 2026 awards with winners being announced at the event, which will also include culture, entertainment and food inspired by the city and the county.

 

And now tickets are available to purchase for the celebration which attracted more than 700 guests last year including businesspeople, community leaders and local politicians.

coventry market set to undergo transformation

More than £1m is set to be invested to ensure the much-loved Market is a striking landmark that supports the future of the city and the City Centre South development.

The Council has announced it has received £600,000 through the Government’s Pride in Place initiative as well as £200,000 from Hill, the developer with £400,000 from the West Midlands Combined Authority.

 

The money will be used to transform the outer look of the Market and celebrate its unique circular design, making it a more attractive and vibrant place to visit.

Plans for the work are being drawn up now, and will include general tidying up of the outside areas and removal of clutter. The concrete and existing windows will be cleaned and there will be new entrances, signage and lighting.
