Â
After spending over a decade working in digital marketing agencies, I had developed a firm belief that, in order to be effective, marketing needed to be a 24/7 practice.Â
Â
Once I started running my own side business, though, I quickly realised that this quantity over quality was not an effective (or healthy) strategy for small soul-led, creative businesses. Â
Â
I noticed that when I was worrying about constantly showing up on social media or writing a weekly newsletter, my creative motivation and the joy I felt working on my business would disappear.Â
Â
Then I started having health struggles. After being diagnosed with a chronic health condition late last year and running headfirst into burnout, I realised very quickly that my beliefs around marketing and how to show up in my business were no longer sustainable for my new body and mind.
Â
I needed to carve out some time to really sit and reflect on all the beliefs I had around marketing and how they might be keeping me from creating a marketing strategy that better suited my personal and business needs.Â
Â
I started to wonder…Â
Â
Do I really have to show up on social media if I hate creating content for it?Â
Â
Do I have to write a new blog every single week and make sure my SEO is absolutely perfect?Â
Â
Do I really have to constantly adapt to keep up with all the latest algorithm changes?Â
Â
Or can I…
Â
Pick and choose which platforms and marketing channels I feel most energised to show up on?Â
Â
Create blog content as and when I have something impactful and valuable to offer?
Â
Ignore algorithms and always feeling like I'm fighting to show up on people's FYP's?
Â
If you're like me and have developed a firm set of beliefs around marketing, I'd like to invite you to take some time over the next few days to think about what those are for you.Â
Â
Try to challenge them. Rewrite those beliefs and create new ones that better fit the way you want to be able to do marketing in your business.Â
Â
Don't be afraid to say exactly what it is you want from your marketing, even if you have the current belief that the way you want to do marketing isn't possible.Â
Â
The first step is getting clear about what you want and need your marketing strategy to look like.Â
Â
Feel free to reply to this email if you'd like to share your beliefs and any realisations you've had through this reflection. I'd love to hear what you've discovered!Â
Â
I'll speak to you again soon,Â
