Tips, Tools, and Insights for Your Online Business
Hello First name / friend,

Building something meaningful takes time and a willingness to keep showing up.

It was an interesting month spent learning about Meta Ads and email workflows in Flodesk in order to promote the Website Foundations Course. Time spent learning, implementing, monitoring and making adjustments...with periods of wanting to quit, but reminding myself of the commitment I made just over a year ago to my business and to the course.

You see, I've been asked a lot this month, “How are registrations going?”(drumroll)…honestly, not quite what I had hoped for.

Am I disappointed? No. Because when I created the course, I made a commitment to release it four times. This is only the second release, and I feel just as strongly today, if not more, that this is the course I would want if I needed to build a website and did not have the budget for a professional.

So with registrations closing on April 5th at midnight. The second release of the course will begin on April 9th with a “Meet & Greet,” followed by the release of the first training module on Friday, April 10...regardless of the number of registrations.

I love teaching and I get great personal satisfaction from helping others create their websites. This is about showing up and being consistent over time for my clients, subscribers, students, course alumni, and myself.

Thank you for being here. If you have any questions, feel free to hit reply. I'd love to hear from you.

I hope this edition of Site Notes supports you in your online journey!

What's New in WordPress 7.0*
The newest version of WordPress is scheduled for release on April 9 and it's all about making things feel simpler, smoother, and more supportive. Here are just a few of the enhancements:
  • Better collaboration tools: WordPress is moving toward making it easier multiple people to work on a site together even at on single pages and posts. Similar to collaboration on a Google Doc.
  • Smarter tools (including AI support): To help with things like writing and content suggestions.
  • Easier to use dashboard: The backend (what you see when you log into your website) is redesigned with less clutter and simplified to make it easier to find what you are looking for and provide a more pleasant experience when working on your site.
  • More control over your design: Updating the look of your website will be quicker and more consistent across all pages.
  • Improved speed and  performance: WordPress has updated its foundation to use newer technology standards, which helps to improve speed and reliability. This benefits you and visitors to your website.
This release is part of a bigger shift toward easier workflows, better collaboration, smarter tools and a more user friendly experience.

Simply…WordPress is becoming more intuitive for beginners and non-tech users.

*You will be able to download the new release from WordPress.org, or visit your WordPress Dashboard, click “Updates”, and then click “Update Now”. If your website is using automatic background updates or on Managed WordPress Hosting plan, the update process will be performed by your hosting provider automatically.
NOTE: Before updating your website verify that you have a recent backup or if you have a staging site make the update there and if no issues push the update to your live site.

Featured Plugin: WP Mail SMTP

Have you ever experienced not receiving notification messages from your website when a visitor completed a form or made a purchase? Perhaps you learned that a visitor either never received a message from your website or it ended up in their junk/spam box. Either way it's not good for business and can result in lost sales, bookings, subscribers…etc.

What is happening? By default, WordPress sends emails using a built-in method that many hosting servers either block or route to spam by default. You don't receive any alerts or error messages. Nothing to let you know that there is a problem. So instead of messages going to the inbox they end up in spam or not delivered at all. WP Mail SMTP fixes this!
Why I love this plugin and install it on all the websites I create:
WP Mail SMTP connects your website to a trusted email service, by-passing the default and routing the emails through a real delivery service. Removing the worry that messages are not getting to the right destination.

The freemium version of this plugin covers everything you need to get started. The premium version adds email logging so you can see every email that was sent, when it was delivered and whether it bounced (email that could not be delivered to the recipient and gets sent back to you instead).

TIP: On a regular basis “test” that your forms are functioning correctly and verify that all the notifications generated by your website are getting to the right destination.
