In April, some of our most meaningful work wasn’t in the annual plan.

 

It happened because our team saw a gap, and we had the flexibility to respond.

In mid-April, families began arriving at Colegio La Cruz in Reynosa before 10am.

 

By midday, 120 people had passed through the Community Health Fair.

 

By the end of the day, over 234 people had been impacted through kits and supplies taken home.

 

This is the same school where Karely teaches weekly health classes.

Where José and Pepe build infrastructure, sometimes teach STEM classes, and are planning a solar installation.

 

In this neighborhood, access to health care is not simple either. Clinics are far. Transportation costs add up. Preventive screenings often wait.

 

So, Karely gathered partners and brought free care directly to them.

 

Vaccinations. Blood pressure checks. Glucose testing. 

Women’s health screenings for breast cancer and HPV. 

Deworming treatments. 

Maternity kits. Menstrual kits.

Family hygiene supplies. Haircuts. Meals.

Childcare. STEM activities.

 

Nearly everyone stayed until the end, moving table to table to receive what they could. Because this kind of access is rare, and needed.

 

One minor was referred for specialized follow-up care. Pregnant women left with maternity support. Families carried home supplies that will stretch beyond the day.

 

The following week, Karely returned. 

 

She set up a permanent hygiene closet inside the school. It's now stocked with menstrual products and basic essentials, so support would not depend on a single event.

 

At a school where we are already providing water, building infrastructure, and preparing for solar installation, this is what layered support looks like:

 

Infrastructure. 

Education. 

Energy. 

Health. 

Dignity.

 

Not separate programs. A connected system.

 

And today, that same school is full of something different again.

 

Our team is there hosting a Children’s Day celebration: games, laughter, and a few hours of extra joy.

 

Both are part of the same work.

In moments of instability, our work matters most.

 

Water systems matter more as summer heat intensifies.
Sanitation matters more when population density increases.
Health access matters more when clinics are out of reach.
Energy systems matter more when grids fail.

 

Different countries. Different contexts. The same steady approach.
