Exciting update on school meals! The Appropriations Committee voted in favor of the Governor's budget which includes no-cost universal breakfast and no-cost lunch for reduced eligible students. Additionally, a study on funding no-cost universal lunch through a sugary drink tax also passed through Appropriations. This is all encouraging progress and we ask that you reach out to the Greenwich delegation and thank them for their support.
On Monday, April 13, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor will host a panel discussion on free school breakfast in Room 2A of the Legislative Office Building. The discussion will also be available to view via The Connecticut Network (CT-N); please refer to the Connecticut General Assembly website for livestream access.
This important conversation will bring together policymakers, advocates, and community leaders to highlight the impact of expanding access to free school breakfast for students across Connecticut. As the state continues to confront food insecurity and educational inequities, the panel will serve as a platform to share data, lived experiences, and policy solutions that support student success. Ensuring that every child starts the day with a nutritious meal is not only a matter of health, but also of equity and academic achievement, and this discussion reflects a continued commitment to advancing school meals for all.

In March, Amari Brantley, Policy Coordinator at End Hunger CT!, organized an outstanding School Meals for All Lobby Day at the Capitol this week. Amari and his team convened a statewide press conference with legislators, followed by an insightful panel discussion on the vital role school meals play in the success of Connecticut’s students.
A heartfelt thank you to Representative Hector Arzeno for attending both the press conference and the panel, and for his long-standing support of universal school meals.
