Hope Report

April is a season when growth is on the mind.  We are reminded of this by the resilient sprouts of dormant winter plants as they begin to re-emerge and blossom. At the Northwest Indiana Center for Maternal Wellness, we recognize that this season mirrors the inner lives of many mothers: holding both the hope of renewal of Spring and the weight of ongoing challenges. Growth is happening all around us though, so this month's Hope Report is a chance for you to reflect, be seen and find resources for HOPE at the Center.

Each day, through our peer support programs and community outreach, we walk alongside moms navigating anxiety, depression, identity shifts, and the invisible weight of caring for others. In every shared story and every moment of connection, we offer a steady reminder:
You are not alone.
Your Story of Hope
This month we are asking you to take a moment and connect to your story of hope.

Take a quiet breath.  Then take another.
Then sigh once or twice and aim to sit still for a moment.
Breathe again.
Picture a bouquet of flowers.
Maybe it was once placed gently into your hands… stems cool against your palm, petals opening in soft layers of color. Maybe it was wrapped in plastic or paper or a beautiful vase.
Notice the details—the shades, the shape, the way the light touched each bloom. Bring the scent closer. Breathe it in slowly. Let it settle.
Remember what that moment held.
Not just the flowers—but what they carried.
A pause. A kindness. A feeling of being seen.
If you’ve never received flowers, picture a moment instead—wildflowers growing along a path, something you once gathered for someone else, or blooms that caught your attention when you needed beauty most. Stay there for a moment. Let yourself notice them fully and wonder, “what am I hopeful for?”
This is the beginning of your story of hope, and we are here to walk alongside you.

Hope In Action
Now, think of a time when you put hope into action, maybe through a bouquet of flowers for another. Maybe you offered it in the form of gratitude or to comfort someone in grief. Maybe it was even a handpicked flower or dandelion bouquet as a child. What matters was you took action on a feeling and offered a gesture of care and hope to another.

There is something quietly powerful about offering flowers.
A bouquet can be a gesture of beauty—but also of acknowledgment.
A way of saying, without many words:
  • “I see you.”
  • “You matter.”
  • “What you’re carrying is not invisible.”
In our work with mothers, we often see how small acts of care can open the door to something deeper—connection, softening, even healing.
And while the act itself may feel simple, the meaning it carries can be profound.

Did you know?
When mothers receive even small gestures of care, they often share reflections like these:
“It reminded me that I’m still a person, not just someone taking care of everyone else.”
“I didn’t realize how much I needed to feel thought of.”
“It gave me a little bit of light on a hard day.”
These moments matter.
They are often the beginning of a shift—from isolation to connection, from overwhelm to support.

Finding Hope
The services offered through the Center are intentionally accessible—many at no cost to moms—because we believe HOPE should never be out of reach. Thanks to the volunteers, community donors and partners we have been able to help moms find hope through:
  • One-on-one connection through programs like the SHARE Journey
  • Safe spaces where moms can speak honestly and be met with compassion
  • Education and advocacy around Maternal Mental Health
  • Knowledge and awareness that reduces stigma and invites healing
  • Peer support groups for mothers experiencing similar needs
Every contribution—whether through presence, partnership, or giving—helps a mother feel less alone. You can help mothers find HOPE by offering support today.
Hope Forecast
We are Looking Ahead with Intention
As April continues, we hold space for what HOPE is here now. We are proud to say we're preparing a very special in-person opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate and honor mothers.

Our first ever Moms on a Mission community fundraising event offers a meaningful way to do just that through a simple post-card message and flower bouquet.

This evening will be centered on connection and impact, raising awareness for maternal mental health while creating space for community, creativity, and simple gestures that show you care.
Guests will have the opportunity to:
✨ Create a bouquet for a special mom
✨ Learn more about maternal mental health
✨ Connect with others who care deeply about supporting families
✨ Explore sponsorship opportunities

If you’ve been considering a way to give back, get involved, or simply show up for mothers in your community, this is your invitation. Sign up at the link below and choose how you can participate and support the Center. Come be part of something that grows hope—one connection, one conversation, and even one bouquet at a time.
