Amy Comander, MD, DipABLM, FACLM, MSCP

Amy Comander, MD, DipABLM, FACLM, MSCP is a breast oncologist and Medical Director of the  Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute in Waltham, Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Program at the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, and an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

As a breast oncologist, Dr. Comander has witnessed the struggles her patients face during and following completion of primary cancer treatment, and she is passionate about improving the overall health and well-being of breast cancer survivors through lifestyle interventions.  In collaboration with Dr. Frates, she launched the PAVING the Path to Wellness Program lifestyle medicine program for breast cancer survivors. She has co-authored the recently published book PAVING Your Path Through Breast Cancer and Beyond which focuses on the role of evidence-based lifestyle interventions for cancer survivors (linked above).

Dr. Comander was the first oncologist to service on the Board of Directors of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and she was honored to be the first oncologist who has received the Fellows designation of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Dr. Comander practices what she preaches, having run marathons, including 12 consecutive Boston Marathons to date, with the goal to improve the lives of those with a diagnosis of cancer.  She is training for her 13th Boston Marathon now! She views running marathons as a metaphor for life, and her favorite running mantra is “Every mile out there is a gift and every finish line is a gift” (Amby Burfoot, winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon).

Dr. Urvi A. Shah, MD, MS is an Assistant Attending in the Myeloma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Lifestyle Medicine and received a Master of Science degree in Clinical and Translational Cancer Research.
Her research interests include modifiable risk factors (diet, metabolism, microbiome) in cancer.

Dr. Shah completed the first pilot nutrition trial in plasma cell disorders to date (NUTRIVENTION) and has 5 other dietary trials enrolling/opening shortly. Dr. Shah has published first author papers in prominent journals such as Cancer Discovery, Blood, and Clinical Cancer Research amongst others and has been an invited speaker and session chair nationally and internationally.

Dr. Shah has been supported by career development awards (National Cancer Institute [NCI] K12, International Myeloma Society and American Society of Hematology [ASH] Scholar) and research awards (ECOG ACRIN Young Investigator Translational Research, Henry Moses, Celgene Future Leaders in Hematology, NCI Early Investigator Advancement Program, Clinical Cancer Research Early Career, ASH David M.
