New measles case
  • One new measles case has been confirmed in Wellington with no link to international travel or any previous measles cases.
  • The National Public Health Service (NPHS) has put out a public health advisory and a list of key asks for healthcare professionals, including triaging and reviewing anyone presenting with measles symptoms through a red stream, and using Nasopharyngeal PCR swabs for testing, instead of sending potential cases to a community testing facility.
  • NPHS has identified several locations the person visited while they were infectious, including Warbirds over Wanaka, and the Ultra music festival in Wellington.
Flu vaccine reimbursement
Health NZ is reimbursing non-HNZ health and disability employers for the costs of vaccinating their frontline staff against influenza this winter, in a bid to safeguard New Zealand's health workforce and those in their care.

National Cervical Screening Programme - Changes to unenrolment settings
Recent changes to unenrolment settings in the National Cervical Screening Programme (NCSP) Register were made on 21 April 2026. Cervical screening in asymptomatic people over the age of 75 years is not recommended.

What is changing
1. The NCSP Register will now automatically unenroll people over the age of 75 years, unless they are in follow-up, in which case they remain enrolled for up to 5 years after their follow-up test is due.
2. A new Unenrolled Reason Age equal or greater than 75’ is being added.  The Unenrolled Reason will be used when unenrolling participants who are 75+ years and can be unenrolled from the programme.
3. The existing Unenrolled Reason of ‘Over 70’ is being renamed to Age 65 + years and exit testing criteria met.  This means that participants will be unenrolled between ages 65 and 70 if they have met the exit criteria.  Any participant that is already unenrolled with reason of ‘Over 70’ will be updated to the new reason.

You will notice changes to screening history and PHO status reports for participants who are unenrolled for this reason.
If you have any questions, please email NCSP@tewhatuora.govt.nz.
