Give Them A Helping Hand When They Arrive! With Our Hummingbird Nesting Material Kit! |
April is the busiest month for the Spring Migration! More and more of us will see our hummers return to our gardens and feeders. We continue to receive sightings in the South and up the east coast and the submissions are coming in at a faster rate now that we are getting closer to the end of their migration. Our visitors have been spotting them up the West Coast and into Nova Scotia along the east coast and up into Michigan & Minnesota in the Central Areas! The migration moves up the coasts first before heading inland because of the warmer temperatures. So far, the migration sightings seem to be showing their usual progress for our beloved hummingbirds. However, some visitors are saying they are seeing their hummers arriving earlier than usual! The migration for the Ruby-throated hummingbird usually starts in February and ends in late May in their northern most habitat of Canada. In the Spring, the Ruby-throated hummingbird will leave Mexico and Central America, where they are concentrated and there is stiff competition for food. Males will usually migrate first followed by the females about 10 to 14 days later. Most of the Western Hummingbird Species including the Allen's, Black-chinned, Broad-tailed, Calliope, Costa's and Rufous Hummingbirds also migrate in the Spring from their Winter grounds. However, one western species, the Anna's Hummingbirds, will stay year-round along the western states and don't migrate in the Spring or Fall. |

Hummingbird Food Protein Is King! |
Hummingbirds need protein! A Hummingbird's survival depends on food! Insects are the number one source of protein for hummers. Nectar is fuel for energy, while protein from insects builds muscle mass and supplies vitamins & minerals. |

Here's A Hummingbird Story From Debbie in Texas: |
Eating Frenzy by Debbie (Pottsboro, Texas) |
A few years back we had just purchased a tent for camping. We set it up for the first time before we actually went camping to become familiar with it. It was late September and the hummers were preparing for their migration flight. I had several feeders all around the backyard with probably about 8 flying around and drinking from each feeder. When sitting out on my back patio they would fly away and return when I went inside. The day was mildly warm and I thought I'd sit in the tent. A few minutes later the hummers resumed their feeding frenzy. So fun to be right out there with them. What surprised me were all the hummers at the top of the trees flying in and out eating bugs. I would have missed them had I not been in the tent. Too many to count up there. So enjoyed that time. The next day, most were gone. About 3 weeks later there was a huge hurricane in Houston. I'm certain many of those hummers were probably in south Texas by that time. I haven't had the mass numbers since then. |

A Few of the Many Positive Reviews for Nature Hills! "I ordered plants from Nature Hills 5 or 6 different times this spring and I was extremely happy with all the plants. They arrived very well packaged and in excellent condition. Nature Hills is my favorite of the 4 nurseries I ordered from this spring. The plants were often higher priced than other nurseries, but the plants were very large. They were also packaged better than the other nurseries. I'm willing to pay a little more for better quality.(Although the prices was sometimes higher, there was often a discount code or free shipping.)" - Paula S. "I ordered primropp yellow lilacs. They arrived within 10 days. I was very impressed by the packaging the plants arrive in. I was very impressed by the stock of bare roots that arrived strong and healthy. The instructions that came with how to plant a bare-root plants plan excellent. I will definitely order from Nature Hills Nursery again."-Laureen K. "A very good experience. Ordering was a breeze, and although Mother Nature delayed a few products, shipping was quick. Any issues we have encountered have been dealt with, and their customer service has been awesome."-Patty T. "Trees and plants arrived in great shape. They are really growing fast, just keep them watered. Would buy again, wonderful service."-Edward B. "Plants were healthy and arrived in excellent condition!"-Abigail H. |
