Hey Hey, it's May!
…And that means it's time for a brand new Tip Tuesday series: Design That Connects.
Last month we covered design that communicates — hierarchy, white space, scannable copy, and split-color headlines. This month we're going a level deeper. Because once your design is saying the right things, the next question is: does it feel like you?
Cohesion, consistency, and the small moves that make your visuals feel like they belong together and to your brand. So, let's kick it off with one of the most common places cohesion breaks down: photos.
I notice this a lot in DIY design: the fonts are on-brand, the colors are right, and then... the photos feel like they came from a completely different world.
It's one of the most common reasons a design feels almost there but not quite.
The good news? It's usually a one-step fix.
Use 'Match Color' or 'Copy Style' in Canva to pull your images into alignment with your brand palette.
When your photos share the same tonal quality as your colors (same warmth, same depth, same overall feel) your audience starts to recognize your content before they even read a word. That's not luck. That's a setting.
Quick tips for making it work:
- Apply it consistently, not occasionally. One cohesive photo doesn't build a brand. Running every image through the same treatment does.
- Start with images that are in the right neighborhood and then let the filter do its job.
- Don't overdo it. The goal is cohesion, not a heavy filter. If it looks processed, dial it back and aim for subtle alignment.
