We all doubt ourselves sometimes. That's not a flaw. It's just part of being human.
AND here's what I find fascinating: our minds are powerful enough to imagine success even when doubt is yelling in our ear. And when we do that, really picture what success looks like, it can be a genuine game changer! For ourselves and for the people we impact.
Here are some questions I use to coach myself through it:
- What does success look like?
- What would it mean to be successful?
- What might you hear yourself saying? See yourself doing?
- How might others respond if you were successful?
- What might it feel like in the room, the energy, the connection, if you were successful?
No one is successful all of the time. AND each of us is more likely to get there when we've defined what "there" looks like, and envisioned what it requires from us. How we want to show up.
A Next Step
Pick one thing you're doubting right now. Take 5 minutes and walk yourself through these questions. Write it down if you can. There's something about putting it on paper that makes it real.
If you're a people leader, try this with someone on your team: "What would success look like for you here?" Then just listen.
