40 is a number that symbolizes a long time or a period of preparation and transformation. 

Hearkening to God involves obedient action motivated by heartfelt love. 

The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) is an important Hebrew prayer and it means listening with the intent to act.  This is the prayer that you find in a Mezuzah, hanging on the door of Jewish homes and a companion passage found in Deuteronomy 11:13-21.

All these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee. Deuteronomy 28.

Identify a spiritual or emotional “mountain” you’ve circled long enough.  What is God inviting you to move forward form? (See Deuteronomy 2)

Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9 with the intent to act.  What is one way you could be more intentional about your scripture reading this week?

We don’t want you to just understand the Old Testament stories, we hope by the end of this year you will fall in love with them. This Old Testament timeline will help, and it will simplify your study of the Old Testament this year.
