Smiles Among Species 
 
Most people know Dr. Spitz for cosmetic and implant dentistry. Fewer know that some of his patients have fur, claws, and far more teeth than the rest of us.

Long before dentistry, Dr. Spitz set out to become a veterinarian, and that love of animals never left him. Since 2014, he has been the consulting dentist for Zoo New England, where he helped establish the Oral Health Care Among Species Program. Gorillas, jaguars, painted dogs, he brings the same standard of care to the animal kingdom that he brings to his human patients every day. His next patient? A wolf.

Tufts recently featured this side of his work in a story and short video worth watching. The program he helped build is a long-term fundraising effort, with its sights set on a CT scanner for the zoo, and some of what has been raised to date has gone toward the animals' dental care. If it moves you the way it moves us, the program welcomes support, with every gift bringing that scanner a little closer.

Meet theTeam: Andrew
 
There are people who work at a practice, and then there are people who shape it. Andrew is the latter. 
 
He came to Smileboston 17 years ago through Dr. Spitz's cousin, bringing with him a background in high-end retail and a customer service philosophy built on the belief that people deserve more than a transaction. That belief found a natural home here. Over the years, he has become the constant, the person patients return to, lean on, and trust without question. 
 
His title is Director of Patient Care, but what he really holds is something harder to define: the feeling patients carry with them that they were seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because Andrew shows up that way, every single day, for the people who walk through our door. 
 
When he's not at the office, you'll likely find him at the Cape with his husband Andrew and his two nieces, who are the center of his world. He's also a devoted sushi fan, so next time you're in, ask him about his favorite roll. With Andrew, every conversation is a chance to connect, and that is exactly why patients love him. 
 
We are lucky to have him.
