I hold your secrets…

 

There is something thrilling about being trusted with the stories people rarely say out loud. I get to listen when people hand over the tender, complicated, funny, heartbreaking parts of themselves they’ve often carried alone for years. Their fears. Their desires. Their shame. Their awkwardness. Their hope that maybe they are not “too much” or “not enough.” You'd think my work is about sex, but what I actually hear are stories about longing, grief, identity, power, trust, loneliness, healing, and the universal desire to feel chosen and understood. I get a front row seat to the bravery of people reaching for one another despite everything they were taught to fear.

 

I feel incredibly lucky. There is a strange and beautiful intimacy in being part of this small group of humans who are invited behind the curtain of people’s private lives.  I never stop being moved by the vulnerability people place in my hands. Every time someone says, “I’ve never told anyone this before,” I understand the weight of what they are offering me. It is sacred, in its own way. Letting another person see you fully is one of the bravest things a human being can do, and I am inspired by you every day.  Thank you for continuing to trust me with your whole human self.  It will always feel holy to me.
