People ARE greater than content. And content is cool too!

Today is Brewers Math Day, a field trip where K-12 students fill American Family Field, experience professional baseball, and discover that math is everywhere. The big intention? Invite kids to be curious about math. And to associate math with joy.

This is a big deal to me.

I have spent a major part of my career doing math professional development with all different stakeholders that impact kids. One of the things I care most about isn't the math itself. It is helping people feel differently about math. Less anxious. More joyful. Seeing that everyone can do math. Everyone belongs with math. Math belongs to everyone.

AND the teachers who chose to bring their classes to the ballpark today? They are the magic. Not the ballpark, not the worksheets. The adults who say yes to a field trip, who stand next to a kid and say "Look at that! What do you notice? What do you wonder?"

A Next Step
Is there something in your community you've been meaning to show up for? Show up. Not because it's required. Because it matters.

And where could you bring a little more joy into your work this week? Who could you bring with you

Stay Curious!
Paige

P.S. Shoutout to my co-creator partner for Math Day. So grateful to get to volunteer with you the past 8 years, Derek Pipkorn! Big thanks to Chris Kimball for all that you do to make this field trip such a success! 💙⚾
