I woke up this morning, thinking about how much I love you.
You see, writing a novel isn't easy.
First, an author must turn the germ of an idea into a cohesive plot, and ultimately an engaging story. The process is not quick: it takes many hours, over many days, then months, and sometimes, even years.
The goal is to grab the attention of enough readers who can't stop turning the book's pages and who are captivated by its characters to the point that they want to spend every waking moment with them.
The author's coup de grâce: that, having held you spellbound for hours, when you come to the words “THE END,” you're truly sad that the story has ended.
Whether you admired or despised them, you were enthralled with the main character, the antagonist, and a secondary character or two. You were glad to ride shotgun on their journey.
If we authors are lucky, you'll have been so taken by our tale that you'll recommend it to your friends, neighbors, and relatives.
So, thank you, thank you, thank you —
For discovering my novels;
And for signing up for this newsletter.
For writing to tell me how much you enjoyed them;
And then, afterward, for reviewing them at your favorite bookstore.
