I’ve always been a hyper minimal, super modern, clean lines aesthetics girl. This hyper minimalism has consistently showed up in my design work, home, fashion, but I’ve seen a shift in myself lately. A deep attraction to mixing minimalism with prints, patterns, bold colors, warmer tones. At first, I thought this was simply due to the fact that as I’m getting older, my taste is evolving, which may very well be the case but I think there’s a lot more at play here. I recently read an article that talks about how the “sterile” home look is out and cozy homes are in. This kicked off an obvious question in my head — why? Why are we craving a deep sense of comfort and coziness in our daily lives more than ever?

What are some of the factors contributing to our need for homes to feel like a cocoon, a sanctuary that we can crawl into and feel safe again? Everywhere you look, there’s a desire to achieve that safety with gorgeous linen sheets, understated luxury, nervous system regulation, and a room where you can exhale your worries away with a couch you can melt into and lamps that give you the warm glow of a 90s Jazz club. I feel like if I turn the big lights on, I’ll be banished to the dark chambers of a culture that has decided comfort is no longer a luxury, but a survival strategy. So, how did we get here?
