Tap trends without looking trendy

Today is Tuesday!

…And Sunday was my mom's birthday – Love you, Mom! Let's tip our hats to her knack for keeping on trend through the decades (even though her beauty alone stands the test of time)!

In the world of digital marketing, on the other hand, there's a version of "keeping up with trends" can mean a new aesthetic every season, inconsistent colors, and fonts that change to keep up with the algorithm. And while it might feel fresh in the moment, it slowly chips away at what makes your brand recognizable.

There's another version — and it's a lot more useful.

Think of trends as a resource and focus on learning how to borrow from them without being consumed by them.

Here's how it works:

Notice the style. What's showing up everywhere right now? Retro palettes, grainy textures, editorial grids, hand-drawn accents? Whatever it is, observe it. You don't have to chase it to learn from it.

Stay in your brand palette and fonts. This is the non-negotiable. If a trending layout uses a terracotta-and-cream color scheme but your brand is ladybug red and black, keep the layout idea and swap in your colors.

Apply it to one element. Instead of trying to overhaul everything, use the trending texture as a background overlay, or the trending layout structure for one social post. Contained experimentation keeps things cohesive.

The result? Your brand feels current without looking like it went through a phase.

Tip Tuesday takeaway:

Trends are a starting point, not the be-all and end-all. Spot what's resonating visually, stay locked into your brand palette and fonts, and apply the influence to one element at a time.
