Coffee-only visitors are always welcome on a walk-in basis, though we are unable to reserve tables for this. Osteria Vibrato is the creation of Charlie Mellor, a former operatic tenor turned restaurateur, who has brought a deeply convivial Italian trattoria to Greek Street in Soho. The room — mosaic floors, pewter candlesticks, a hidden bar at the back — feels airlifted from the backstreets of Milan, and the cooking holds its own: the risotto bianco is a must, while the hand-formed orecchiette with cime di rapa could have been made by Puglian grannies. Freshly baked amaretti, a piano that staff might spontaneously play, and Mellor's natural warmth make this somewhere you arrive for dinner and somehow find yourself still there at midnight.

Dorset Art Weeks is one of the great pleasures of the county's cultural calendar — sixteen days of extraordinary art, from traditional to contemporary, spread across 294 venues including artists' open studios, workshops, and curated exhibitions. Handpicked: Painting Flowers from 1900 to Today, running at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge until 6 September 2026, brings together works by over 40 artists — from Henri Rousseau and Vanessa Bell to Louise Bourgeois and Chris Ofili — in a joyful celebration of one of art's most beloved genres. Rooted in Kettle's Yard's own tradition of fresh flower arrangements, lovingly composed by founders Jim and Helen Ede, the exhibition feels entirely at home in this most intimate of galleries. Seven artists, among them Lubaina Himid and Caroline Walker, have created new works especially for the show, making it feel as alive as a freshly cut bunch.

The 1991 psychological thriller Cape Fear is getting a gripping new incarnation as an Apple TV limited series, with Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson starring as a married couple of attorneys whose lives are upended when the notorious killer they helped imprison — played by a no-doubt menacing Javier Bardem — is released and sets his sights on revenge. With Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg on board as executive producers, this is about as formidable a creative pedigree as television gets. If the original left you sleeping with the lights on, this one looks set to do the same.
